About The Position

Ensures the safe transport of patients upon admission, transport of patients at discharge, and the transport of patients from in-house patient room to diagnostic area as assigned. Guides co-workers in the performance of transport duties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
  • One year experience
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving patients.
  • Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)

Responsibilities

  • Develops patient satisfaction by consistently providing for the safe movement of patients to and from diagnostic areas, nursing units, etc., as assigned.
  • Promotes safety by accurately identifying each patient through the use of two patient ID methods.
  • Ensures clinical /service outcomes by assisting with the audit of hand hygiene practices and by intervening with units and transporters to determine patient /customer needs.
  • Enhances employee satisfaction by treating colleagues as co-workers and by being sensitive in regard to respect of others.
  • Acts as a role model by perpetuating an attitude of reconciliation and cooperation within the team.
  • Contributes to physician and employee satisfaction by timely delivery of patients to the appointed unit, clinic, or test site.
  • Contributes to the completion of all tasks during the scheduled shift time and by practicing stewardship of productive time.
  • Promotes team building among the internal transportation department, the nursing units, and the ancillary units to positively affect timely service delivery.
  • Transports patients as needed.
  • May provide input for hiring, training, leading, and evaluating staff.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
