About The Position

We’re looking for Lead Transformer Technician candidates whose primary role is to direct and coordinate day-to-day field activities related to the installation, assembly, maintenance, repair, and testing of power transformers across substations, power plants, and industrial environments. This position is responsible for ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project scope, schedule, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Over 8+ years of experience in transformer assembly, installation, maintenance, and/or field service within substations, power plants, or industrial environments
  • Demonstrated experience leading or directing crews on job sites, including task assignment and workflow coordination
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to interface with team members, supervisors, and other trades on-site
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work procedures
  • Ability to complete and support field documentation, including service reports, checklists, and basic test records
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE requirements, and job hazard analysis (JHA)
  • Proven ability to coordinate field activities, manage priorities, and maintain productivity in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with OEM standards, utility requirements, and industry standards
  • Ability to travel up to 80% throughout continental USA, reflecting flexibility and commitment to project needs.
  • Ability to pass a stringent drug screening and background check, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and policies.
  • Hold a valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record, demonstrating reliability and adherence to safety regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with transformer oil filtration, testing, or disassembly
  • Possession of a Class A CDL, OSHA training, or a TWIC card
  • Holding a DOT medical certification
  • Familiarity with transformer components, control wiring, or oil filtration
  • Experience using shop equipment, electrical tools, or test platforms
  • Knowledge of transformer teardown or disposal preparation procedures
  • Previous work experience with energized equipment or substations
  • Class A CDL preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform field work involving the installation, assembly, maintenance, repair, and testing of power transformers and associated equipment
  • Direct and coordinate daily crew activities, assigning tasks and ensuring work is executed efficiently and according to project scope
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for supervisors, project managers, and other stakeholders regarding job progress and field conditions
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company, client, and industry safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, and environmental requirements
  • Monitor job progress, productivity, and quality, making real-time adjustments to maintain schedule and performance targets
  • Interpret and follow technical drawings, procedures, and specifications, ensuring proper execution of all transformer work.
  • Assist with and oversee transformer testing and basic diagnostics, escalating complex technical issues to senior personnel when needed
  • Support and verify completion of field documentation, including service reports, test forms, and checklists
  • Identify, document, and communicate field issues, delays, or non-conformances, and assist in developing corrective actions
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure proper tooling, equipment, and materials are available and used correctly
  • Provide on-the-job guidance and support to junior technicians, promoting safe work practices and skill development
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on all job sites
  • Travel to various job sites as required and work in outdoor, industrial, and high-voltage environments
