About The Position

As a Lead Surgical Technologist – Thoracic Surgery, you will play a vital leadership role in one of the nation's premier academic medical centers, supporting complex surgical procedures while mentoring colleagues and ensuring excellence in patient care. As a Lead Surgical Technologist, you will be an essential member of the perioperative team, working under the direction of the surgeon and in collaboration with nurses and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals. Reporting to the Operating Room Nurse Manager, you will provide expert clinical support while serving as a leader and resource within the Thoracic Surgery service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist required.
  • Thoracic surgery experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills with a commitment to exceptional patient care.

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership experience or the ability to serve as a clinical resource and mentor is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing operating rooms for a wide range of thoracic surgical procedures.
  • Anticipating the needs of the surgical team by selecting and organizing specialized instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Managing and coordinating surgical equipment throughout procedures to ensure efficiency and patient safety.
  • Serving as a clinical expert and mentor for Surgical Technologists within the Thoracic service.
  • Collaborating closely with Central Processing, Materials Management, Clinical Support, Education, and Nursing Leadership to ensure seamless surgical operations.
  • Promoting the highest standards of sterile technique, patient safety, and quality outcomes.
  • Supporting a collaborative, team-focused environment dedicated to delivering exceptional care.
