Under the direction of the Blood Bank Manager, this role leads and oversees staff members responsible for performing duties in Blood Bank operations and services. The Lead Technologist ensures adherence to policies and procedures, provides training to personnel, maintains and stores records according to regulatory requirements, oversees daily departmental activities in the Manager’s absence, and performs a variety of Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement tasks relative to the Transfusion Service Department. Duties and assignments depend on the operational needs of the departments and staffing levels.
