About The Position

This role is a director-level, leadership position where you will use your experience to develop custom energy conservation and decarbonization solutions for the industrial, institutional and commercial sectors. You will provide expert knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems including (and not limited to) steam and hot water boilers, conversions from steam to low temperature hot water, ventilation systems, hydronic heating and cooling systems, energy conservation & optimization strategies for all HVAC systems, new and emerging technologies and applications for deep decarbonization. You will be responsible for leading and overseeing the design of entire HVAC systems from end-to-end based on site audits and close collaboration with the internal energy engineering team, external engineers of record, equipment manufacturers, suppliers and contractors. You will oversee the development and completion of energy savings calculations and be able to actively support the on-site coordination, supervision and successful implementation and commissioning of HVAC systems. You will work collaboratively with the LTS team to brainstorm and co-develop technical solutions that drive the best value for our customers. You will work together to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in efforts to retain value. You will share findings and best practices with the LTS and broader Blackstone team to lead technical growth and competence internally.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years' experience on project job sites implementing retrofit solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. You are a connector, bring people together and contemplate the ripple effect of your solutions; who and how it will impact, and making sure people are kept informed.
  • Deliver a client-centric approach to collaboration and problem solving
  • Skilled in drafting reports, presenting proposals, and communicating directly with stakeholders
  • Experience with Excel and AutoCAD strong asset.
  • Previous or related experience engaging with multiple business/project stakeholders
  • Expertise in energy efficiency systems and knowledge of the energy market
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or building systems-related field
  • Professional Engineer designation (P. Eng) is a requirement; will consider CET dependent on experience. There is not a requirement to stamp drawings.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Valid driver’s license

  • PMP certification from PMI (strongly preferred)
  • CEM certification from AEE (strongly preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and ensure compliance with best practices for health and safety on site when supporting the project delivery team.
  • Support the project manager to identify key risks by subject matter area.
  • Act as a point person to manage all change orders or design modifications and liaise with the designers and engineer of record to ensure all changes reflect, and are aligned with, the project needs and goals.
  • Oversee and direct the conceptual design and energy modelling of the solutions and opportunities you deem appropriate for each customer site. Continue to oversee the detailed engineering performed by 3rd party engineers of record as the accountable party for QA/QC, ensuring both savings, cost and constructability (schedule) of the HVAC measures.
  • Support the Project Manager as a subject matter expert with the procurement and implementation of energy conservation measures under your expertise, this would cover heating, ventilation, hydronic loops, re-heat and perimeter heating systems including any associated systems such as thermal energy storage. You will review and provide detailed direction to ensure that the procurement packages are complete and will drive the desired outcomes of the measures/projects.
  • Manage and resolve technical challenges on-site by leveraging your subject matter expertise.
  • QA/QC - find creative approaches for achieving project energy and cost goals, while improving budgets and timelines whilst mitigating project risks. This is a continuous optimization role to drive improvement during project design and delivery.

  • Apply agile practices during project design and implementation, leading the adaption of HVAC measures to ensure the desired savings outcomes are achieved within the project budget.
  • Act as primary technical resource for all internal project stakeholders during the entire development and implementation phases.
  • Master all aspects of energy performance measures before committing to implementation.
  • Proactively identify any technical issues that will delay or cause performance issues with the project and lead the resolution.
  • Cooperate and support interdepartmental, interdivisional, inter company goals, directives and initiatives endorsed by Blackstone as and when required.
  • Support the VP, Clean Infrastructure Solutions and President, Energy Solutions with business development planning and activities such as presentations, strategy, or negotiations to assist with building sales pipeline and closing contracts.
