About The Position

Lead/Specialist is viewed as an expert in the administration and support of a database platform. Undertakes complex projects requiring additional technical knowledge and makes decisions on ambiguous administrative and support issues. Communicates common goals and direction for the team. May interface with management to provide project updates. Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank’s risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of hands-on SQL Server database administration experience in an enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with database automation, scripting, performance tuning, upgrades, and infrastructure management.
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, security, high availability, disaster recovery, and operational best practices.

Responsibilities

  • SQL Server Database Administration experience, automation (PowerShell) experience, and self-service (Jenkins/Ansible) desire and/or experience.
  • Performance tune complex queries and processes for both in-house and vendor applications.
  • Understands database development best practices.
  • Assess new SQL Server instances for an enterprise IT organization, maintaining inventory, and optimizing cost for required licenses.
  • Design and maintain IT infrastructure strategies to build database environments for both vendor and in-house supported applications, considering hardening, security, configuration, maintenance, and support.
  • Create and maintain documentation for audit, compliance, training, and other purposes.
  • Explain complex database concepts to non-technical people in an easily understood way.
  • Maintain the health of numerous SQL Server installations through monitoring and patching activities.
  • Ability to upgrade SQL Server from any version to any other newer version using multiple techniques, understanding the benefits and drawbacks of each technique.
  • Performs database system management functions (e.g., software installs, version upgrades, configuration management) for DBMS, SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS installations.
  • Documents, defines, and develops database standards, procedures, and architecture.
  • Facilitates project planning by establishing estimates, milestones and schedules.
  • Provides team with technical training and/or mentoring, but listens and learns when others provide training and/or mentoring.
  • Attend and participate in team discussions and meetings.
  • Readiness and willingness to work and learn.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation, helping team-mates when needed.
  • Other duties as required.
