About The Position

We are seeking one Full-time Team Lead position for our Produce department. This role involves providing superior customer service, maintaining the quality and presentation of produce, stocking shelves, ensuring compliance with sanitary and safety standards, and supporting overall department operations. The position requires purchasing produce, evaluating suppliers, managing inventory, and coordinating with the Department Manager on pricing and ordering. Additionally, the Team Lead will ensure the department is clean and orderly, maintain equipment, and assist with staff orientation and training.

Requirements

  • Ability to safely lift 40 lbs.
  • Safe knife handling skills
  • Stand/walk for duration of shift
  • Engage in bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, and lifting at or above shoulder height

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the quality and presentation of produce and other products on the sales floor and on display
  • Stocking produce items on to shelves
  • Ensuring compliance with sanitary and safety standards and procedures
  • Providing superior customer service to shoppers
  • Purchasing produce considering store goals for local product, organic product, and using co-op suppliers
  • Evaluating suppliers and investigating new sources of supply in coordination with the Department Manager
  • Ensuring adequate supply and selection of products, keeping out-of-stocks to a minimum
  • Receiving and processing orders, checking product condition and invoice accuracy on all deliveries
  • Ensuring correct product rotation
  • Coordinating returns and credit from suppliers where applicable
  • Reviewing invoices for accuracy, price changes, and product additions
  • Establishing prices based on margin goals set with the Department Manager
  • Ensuring accurate up-to-date price labeling and PLU records for department items
  • Communicating ordering times and deadlines to other departments when a vendor is shared
  • Communicating changes in usual delivery time to other departments when a vendor is shared
  • Ensuring that department display units, coolers, storage areas and aisles are in a clean and orderly condition and meet all Health Department requirements
  • Ensuring unsellable items are properly disposed
  • Ensuring produce equipment is maintained and properly serviced
  • Advising store manager of equipment repair and/or replacement needs
  • Ensuring produce staff is aware of proper lifting techniques, safe operation of lift jack and pallet jacks, location of accident reports, first aid kit, and procedures for injured employees
  • Assisting to coordinate quarterly inventory of produce items
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by the Department Manager
  • Assisting in orientation for staff through established procedures and policies
  • Assisting in job training, and re-training as necessary, for all produce staff
