About The Position

Under the general supervision of the School Director, the Lead Teacher provides instructional leadership, coaching, and support to the teaching staff while maintaining instructional responsibilities as assigned. The Lead Teacher oversees curriculum implementation, instructional quality, teacher development, assessment practices, and academic intervention systems. This position collaborates with administrators, Life Coaches, and instructors to ensure students achieve academic success; graduates prepared for postsecondary opportunities and meet Tennessee state graduation requirements. The Lead Teacher serves as a member of the school's leadership team and promotes a culture of accountability, innovation, and student-centered learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Education or related content area required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Strong instructional, organizational, coaching, and leadership skills
  • Effective and polished communication skills.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong skills in data-informed analysis and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in cross-functional collaboration.
  • Dedicated to advancing equity and supporting the success of diverse learners.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Tennessee Teaching License preferred.
  • Master’s degree in education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with adult learners, alternative education students, or nontraditional populations preferred.
  • Previous instructional coaching, department chair, lead teacher, or supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in designing rigorous, engaging, and differentiated instruction that meets the needs of adult learners and nontraditional learners.
  • Monitor instructional practices to ensure lesson alignment with network-wide curriculum is followed in each classroom while adhering to network academic goals and student learning outcomes.
  • Assist teachers in developing lesson plans, and instructional strategies that promote mastery of standards.
  • Promote best practices in literacy, numeracy, disciplinary literacy, and workforce readiness instruction.
  • Ensure instructional programs support graduation requirements and post-secondary readiness.
  • Provide instructional coaching, mentoring, and support to teachers through observations, feedback, and collaborative planning.
  • Coordinate and communicate teacher evaluation processes and timelines.
  • Conduct formal and informal classroom observations and provide actionable feedback to improve instructional effectiveness.
  • Develop individualized professional growth plans for teachers.
  • Facilitate instructional team meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Identify professional development needs through classroom observations, student achievement data, and performance evaluations in collaboration with the Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator.
  • Foster a collaborative culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional excellence.
  • Collaborate with Life Coaches and instructors to support student persistence, retention, and graduation goals.
  • Assist teachers in implementing Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI²) strategies and academic support plans.
  • Monitor and support student success in graduation completion, dual enrollment, industry certification, and post-secondary readiness pathways.
  • Promote equitable learning opportunities for all students, including students with diverse educational backgrounds and learning needs.
  • Utilize data to identify trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and inform instructional decisions.
  • Develop and monitor academic performance goals aligned with school-wide objectives and accountability metrics.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to develop action plans that improve student achievement and retention.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations regarding instructional effectiveness and academic outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of data-informed decision-making across instructional teams.
  • Serve as a member of the school's leadership team.
  • Collaborate with the School Director to develop and implement school-wide goals related to enrollment, retention, student achievement, graduation, and post-secondary success.
  • Partner with Life Coaches, support staff, and community partners to address barriers impacting student success.
  • Participate in strategic planning, school improvement initiatives, and organizational development efforts.
  • Support recruitment, enrollment, orientation, and outreach activities.
  • Foster positive relationships among students, staff, community stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
  • Support initiatives that improve student engagement, attendance, persistence, and satisfaction.
  • Encourage high expectations for academic performance and personal responsibility.
  • Model professionalism, ethical behavior, and commitment to The Excel Center mission.
  • Assist with school events, graduation activities, student recognition programs, and community engagement efforts.
