About The Position

The Lead Teacher will develop instruction that is developmentally appropriate for all students within the classroom community. This role involves composing regular communication with families, assessing all students, and utilizing project-based curriculum to promote the growth of the whole-child, meeting students at their level of learning. The Lead Teacher will create a nurturing yet structured environment for early learners and college students to explore and learn. Responsibilities include utilizing outlined assessment tools to create and update digital documentation of student progress, adhering to the school-wide policy for discipline, maintaining confidentiality of families and students, and following university protocols for child abuse and state licensing requirements. Additionally, the Lead Teacher will supervise and mentor student staff, use supervisory skills to maintain the desired climate of the school, collaborate and evaluate the performance of staff at the end of each semester, and communicate school policies through emails, meetings, and trainings. The role requires modeling best practices as defined by the College of Education in a learner-centered educational environment. Regular communication with families and other agencies is expected, including conducting family conferences 2-3 times a year for collaboration on planning and assessing individual learning goals. Conferences may also be held outside of these times to address specific student needs or promote early intervention strategies. Portfolios will be maintained to support planning for learner growth and document such growth. Collaboration with the teaching team is essential to create and enforce a vision for the school community, as is collaboration with various departments at the University and participation in TU initiatives. The Lead Teacher will also promote the Center within the greater community and maintain positive relationships with interns through constructive feedback and communication with professors. Participation in all school initiatives, such as garden, internships, art gallery, family reading program, and other interest programs, is expected. The role also involves maintaining classroom management, considering individual student needs, and becoming knowledgeable of specific classroom routines and procedures to maintain consistency for students. Maintaining CPR & First Aid Certification and staying current with MSDE licensing requirements are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One year of classroom experience.
  • 90 + 9 clock hour certification in early childhood curriculum & development and communication or MSDE teacher certificate/approval.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 clock hour ADA certification from the Maryland State Department of Education.
  • Infant and Toddler certification from the Maryland State Department of Education.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Experience in a lab school setting.
  • Hold a background in the arts or STEM.
  • Participation in Professional organizations for Early Childhood Education.
