About The Position

The Lead Teacher at the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington’s Early Learning Program shapes young children’s early learning experiences. Reporting to the Early Learning Director or Assistant Director, the role plans and implements developmentally appropriate activities that support children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. The teacher uses creativity and collaboration to create a welcoming learning environment and supports learning through purposeful play using the Creative Curriculum.

Requirements

• At least 20 years of age.
• CDA, AA, BA, or BS in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Physical exam and TB test.
• Ability to meet county and state licensing and background requirements.
• Three years of experience working with children and one year of teaching in a licensed center.
• Positive, collaborative, and creative attitude.

Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise, and implement classroom programs aligned with YMCA goals and standards.
• Create and deliver developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
• Use the Creative Curriculum to support learning through purposeful play.
• Design daily routines that make education fun, engaging, and meaningful.
• Maintain a safe environment and monitor children closely at all times.
• Communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and educational partners.
• Maintain a warm, welcoming, and visually engaging classroom aligned with YMCA and NAEYC guidelines.
