JOB SUMMARY: The Lead Teacher develops strong nurturing relationships with children and families. Teachers develop quality partnership that encourage family engagement in their child’s learning and provide opportunities to access other services provided by Head Start and Community Action. Teacher provides children with developmentally appropriate, safe and health learning environment in preparation for school success. Teacher is responsible for meeting performance standards, following agency policies/procedures, and childcare licensing rules/regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, or closely related field in education or family/consumer science. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • One year of experience being responsible for the education and care of children ages birth through five (5).
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and remain insurable in accordance with the Agency’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Average computer skills including being proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), collaborations platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams), and knowledge of online databases and government websites.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Experience in effective customer service, able to represent the organization in a friendly, customer focused and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with an array of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the general public using empathy, courtesy and good judgment to provide clear explanations of program policies and procedures.
  • Effectively work under pressure, ability to remain calm and deescalate tense situations if necessary.
  • Strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of initiatives concurrently, able to succeed in a changing environment with the ability to anticipate future needs.
  • Successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making skills.
  • Professional and resourceful style; able to work independently and as a team player, take initiative, and management multiple tasks and projects at a time.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including but not limited to personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, telephone, and printer.

Nice To Haves

  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee is required to work in a primarily active work environment. These conditions include both indoor and outdoor environments such as classrooms, playgrounds, and offices. The employee may have exposure to unpredictable child and family behavior, contagious conditions. Occasional travel to agency sites and homes for quality assurance monitoring may be required. Must have vehicle for business use. Ability to travel overnight and occasionally use air transportation as applicable.
  • The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.), potentially emotionally distraught individuals and has exposure to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions.
  • Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary work.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain complete child and staff files.
  • Serve as center administrator relating to ODJFS regulations and step up to quality.
  • Oversees daily operations of classroom especially health and safety of children.
  • Complete a PASS and ECERS
  • Develop a budget with SUTQ funds and maintain accurate records of SUTQ spending receipts.
  • Plan and develop a weekly Curriculum Plan that establishes and implements individual and group learning experiences based on analysis of child summaries.
  • Schedule and prepare Parent Teacher conferences and Home Visits
  • Plan and develop transition plans as needed.
  • Conduct all required screenings and assessments within stated timeframes.
  • Provide referrals to appropriate Quality Assurance staff based on screening and assessment results.
  • Establish and maintain Child goals. Monitor child goals, including IEP goals, and follow up accordingly.
  • Establish and maintain child assessments including written observations of child’s well-being, work samples and individual child goals.
  • Monitor compliance with all rules and regulations.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective communication system with team members and families.
  • Oversee and review Medical Care Plans and Request for Administration of Medication prior to child’s entry and as needed.
  • Incorporate Conscious Discipline techniques in daily schedules and routines.
  • Responsible for providing and maintaining a safe and effective classroom/center environment that ensures the safety and well-being of children.
  • Ability to sit/stand for a lengthy period of time, stoop, bend and lift (up to 50 lbs.) while attending to the needs of children.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required.
