About The Position

The preschool lead infant teacher supervises the assistant teacher in their classroom. All department staff are responsible for each other’s safety and well-being. This role includes, but is not limited, to diapering, feeding, and care of the infants in the classroom on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • Completion of an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and/or teaching certification in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, or Elementary Education OR the completion of an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree, or its equivalent, in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, or Elementary Education OR the completion of an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university with a CDA and two (2) years' work experience related to the care and development of children.
  • Compliance with Act 33, to include documentation of Child Abuse History (Form CY-113) and Criminal History (Form SP4-164) and FBI fingerprinting.
  • Biennial physical examination and initial TB (Mantoux) Test and freedom from any infectious or communicable disease.
  • Ability to work with and relate well to young children and coworkers.
  • Ability to supervise adults.
  • Successfully complete the New Staff Orientation and mandated reporter training before starting in the classroom.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates appropriate interactions with children, including showing affection, interest, and respect, making oneself available and responsive, speaking in a friendly manner, encouraging language use, treating all children equally with respect and consideration, providing equal opportunities to participate in activities, encouraging independence, using positive approaches to behavior, refraining from physical punishment or negative discipline, helping children deal with emotions, encouraging prosocial behavior, and ensuring developmentally appropriate expectations.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe and healthful learning environment by maintaining an efficient and well-arranged classroom, keeping equipment and materials in good repair and stored safely, sanitizing and cleaning equipment and materials, providing developmentally appropriate materials and activities, implementing a positive routine, encouraging daily health routines, providing adequate supervision, and planning and initiating emergency procedures.
  • Advances children's physical and intellectual competence by promoting language understanding and use, providing opportunities for cognitive skill development, promoting physical development, attending to physical needs during rest time, providing opportunities for creative expression, and planning for a multi-sensory classroom environment.
  • Supports children's social-emotional development and provides positive guidance by providing opportunities for success, involving children in self-help training, utilizing appropriate group management techniques, eating with children and modeling table manners, including multi-cultural and multi-ethnic materials, providing educational opportunities through hands-on food experiences, and providing guidance in nutritional experiences.
  • Establishes positive and productive communication with families by maintaining contact through various methods, involving parents in the education plan, providing opportunities for parent participation, and speaking with families in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner.
  • Carries out supplementary and planning responsibilities, including evaluating each child and conducting formal observations, planning developmental goals, carrying out Individual Education Plans for special needs children, evaluating plan success, maintaining accurate records, planning and participating in field trips, making referrals to community agencies, reporting suspected child abuse, attending staff meetings, coordinating activities of Assistant Lead Teachers, maintaining classroom cleanliness, following the dress code, completing required training hours annually, and adhering to agency policies and procedures.
