Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Strong knowledge of Georgia history and middle school Social Studies.
- Ability to facilitate thoughtful discussion and source-based inquiry.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to Ethos’s mission and educational equity.
Nice To Haves
- Georgia teaching certification appropriate to the assignment strongly recommended.
- Middle school teaching experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver Social Studies instruction aligned with Georgia standards.
- Build scholars’ understanding of Georgia’s history and its relationship to national events.
- Teach scholars to analyze primary and secondary sources and develop evidence-based conclusions.
- Integrate reading, writing, discussion, research, and inquiry into daily instruction.
- Help scholars understand civic participation and the role of government.
- Use assessments and scholar work to adjust instruction and provide targeted support.
- Establish a safe, joyful classroom with clear routines and high expectations.
- Communicate regularly with families about scholar progress.
- Collaborate with specialized services staff to implement scholar accommodations and supports.
- Participate in coaching, professional development, and Grade 8 team planning.
- Reinforce the study habits, independence, and self-advocacy scholars need for high school.
