About The Position

Member of a software engineering team involved in design & development of the features related to core file system I/O path for NetApp's flagship storage operating system ONTAP. ONTAP is a feature rich stack with its rich data management capabilities that has tremendous value to our customers and is used in mission critical applications across the world. You will work as part of a team responsible for the development, testing and debugging of distributed file system software that drives NetApp cloud, hybrid-cloud and on-premises solutions. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, supportability, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market. Software engineers focus on enhancements to existing products as well as new product development. This is a technical lead position that requires an individual to be broad-thinking, systems-focused, creative, team-oriented, technologically savvy, able to lead large cross-functional teams, and driven to produce results.

Requirements

  • Excellent coding skills in C/C++ required
  • Experience in Systems/Kernel programming, including Filesystems, Networking, or file/cloud protocols is a must
  • Proven track record of leading mid to large sized projects
  • Must be creative, team-oriented, a quick learner, and driven to produce results
  • Strong understanding and experience with computer architecture, data structures, and programming practices
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment of other engineers to meet aggressive goals and high-quality standards.
  • Possesses sufficient technical knowledge and experience to pick up new expertise quickly with guidance from the architects.
  • Strong aptitude for learning new technologies
  • Resourceful in applying creative ideas to solve problem.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with file system internals, storage media management, and data consistency primitives is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting development and testing activities involving several inter-dependencies
  • Participate in technical discussions within the team and with other business units related to projects
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities to support team, department, and company goals
  • Participate in all phases of product development cycle: from product definition and design, through implementation, debugging, testing and early customer support
  • Lead Critical and/or high-visibility customer support engagements
