About The Position

GDIT is looking for a Lead Systems Engineer to support the DHS Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) / National Coordination Center (NCC). This senior systems engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end design, integration, and verification of mission-critical law enforcement capabilities in AWS Cloud and hybrid (cloud/on-prem) environments. The role involves translating operational requirements into system-level designs and testable requirements, developing and maintaining core SE artifacts, leading integration and system-level testing, and driving transition to operations. The engineer will partner with the Systems Architect on technical design, ensure compliance with federal security frameworks, and provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Extensive systems engineering experience on complex, mission-critical, multi-system environments.
  • Hands-on systems engineering in AWS Cloud in government space, integrating applications, data, and infrastructure across cloud and on-prem.
  • Expertise in requirements analysis/traceability, system design, integration planning, test planning, and V&V.
  • Ability to work across multiple technical disciplines and interface with customers, operations, and cyber.
  • Familiarity with NIST 800‑53, FedRAMP, DOJ policies, and law enforcement data protections.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required clearance/suitability.
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or technical field or equivalent.
  • 10 years+ of related experience.
  • Active Secret clearance required; must be able to obtain TS clearance.
  • U.S. Citizen required.

Nice To Haves

  • Law enforcement or similar mission programs experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with real-time/near-real-time law enforcement coordination or incident/investigation workflows.
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS/DynamoDB, S3, API Gateway, Lambda, CloudWatch/CloudTrail, Kiro or other similar tools.
  • Experience with DevSecOps (CI/CD, IaC, automated testing) at systems-integration level.
  • Strong analytical/troubleshooting skills in distributed, hybrid environments.
  • Clear technical communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Translate HSTF/NCC law enforcement mission requirements into system-level designs and testable requirements in AWS Cloud.
  • Lead end-to-end systems engineering, integration, and verification across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Develop and maintain system requirements, traceability, Interface Control specifications, architecture diagrams, data flows, test plans, and configuration baselines.
  • Collaborate with the Systems Architect to implement secure, compliant architectures for National Coordination Center services.
  • Plan and execute complex integrations and system-level tests (functional, performance, interoperability, security).
  • Diagnose and resolve multi-system integration issues and support smooth transition to operations.
  • Improve systems engineering processes, documentation, and configuration/tracing practices on the program.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Coordinate infrastructure and software projects.
