About The Position

JMU Dining is looking for a student leader to join the JMU Dining Team. The Lead Sustainability Intern’s primary role is to assist with the development and implementation of long-term environmental stewardship programs within the areas of ethical and local food sourcing, food waste minimization, food insecurity, and student education. One full semester commitment is required, with the opportunity to extend the internship based on performance.

Requirements

Must have a team player attitude, be dependable, reliable, and respectable; exemplify leadership qualities and professionalism with excellent customer service skills
Strong communication skills and a creative mindset are a must
Comfortable talking with students; outgoing
Comfortable working independently.

Responsibilities

Serve as an advocate for JMU Dining’s sustainability initiatives
Create exceptional experiences by assisting with overall event planning and deployment, which includes set-up, program management, and break-down
Assist with management of special projects: JMU Dining's Farmer's Market, Wipe Out Waste Events, reusable container program promotion, and other tasks assigned by manager. Act as cashier at weekly farmer’s market
Assist with maintaining hydroponics grow cabinet
Assist with promotion and usage of sustainable/local food being purchased
Connect with campus organizations and identify ways to inform and maintain those relationships
Position includes some general office work and administrative activities
Assist with food recovery efforts in the dining halls as a team leader at least once a month
Any other reasonable requests as detailed by management and in tandem with the events coordinator
