About The Position
B2Gold is seeking a Lead Surveyor for their operations in Nunavut, Canada. This role reports to the Chief Surveyor and operates on a fly-in, fly-out 3x3 rotation. The Lead Surveyor will be responsible for coordinating daily survey tasks, providing accurate staking for earthworks and construction, conducting as-built surveys for progress tracking and volumetric analysis, and performing ground movement monitoring. The position also involves installing and maintaining monitoring devices, calculating surfaces for reporting, maintaining digital records, and supporting Open Pit Survey operations as needed.
Requirements
- Five (5) years’ experience in land surveying, preferably in the mining or construction sector
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Geospatial Science, or related field
- Advanced RPAS Pilot’s License preferred
- A valid Driver’s License is required
- Ability to walk 5 kilometers or more for 10 hours daily in adverse weather conditions
- Working rights in Canada
Nice To Haves
- Open Pit experience is an asset
- Experience with Trimble controllers and Total Stations is preferred
- Familiarity with TBC, Deswik, and AutoCAD is considered an asset
- Experience with DJI considered an asset
Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily survey tasks in collaboration with the Senior Surveyor, Civil Earthworks Supervisor, and Civil Engineers
- Provide accurate cut and fill staking to support earthworks and construction activities
- Conduct daily as-built surveys to maintain current and reliable surface models
- Perform weekly and monthly as-built surveys for volumetric analysis and progress tracking
- Carry out weekly prism monitoring using a total station to detect and document ground movement
- Install and maintain prisms or other geotechnical monitoring devices as required
- Ensure monitoring instruments are read and logged according to established schedules
- Calculate as-built and design surfaces for accurate volume and progress reporting
- Maintain organized digital records and survey data files on data controllers and workstations
- Provide support to Open Pit Survey operations when required
