About The Position

This is a working Lead position that involves training and mentoring staff, as well as coordinating the scheduling and efforts of Surgical Technicians. The role requires a Certified Surgical Technician to provide intra-operative support. The primary responsibility is to act as the primary scrub person, handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures while maintaining constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field. The position also involves preparing operating rooms for surgery using appropriate techniques, providing technical services, and assisting in other areas as assigned. Participation in department performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities is also expected.

Requirements

• Two years of hospital surgical experience or formal training program.
• Knowledge and experience in operative procedures, equipment and instrumentation, and /or equivalent experience.
• Completion of formal education/training to obtain a Certification as a Surgical Tech and/or acquired Certification completion within 6 months.
• Certification as a Surgical Tech, or acquired Certification completion within 6 months.
• CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the written individualized Physician Preference Card for the surgical procedure.
• Coordinates with circulating nurse to provide supplies, equipment and instruments for designated surgical procedures.
• Conducts and documents sponge, instrument and needle counts.
• Utilizes a working knowledge of current surgical scrub technology and medical terminology.
• Coordinates with circulating nurse to continuously assess case progress and patient’s safety.
• Properly operates and documents operation of all equipment utilized.
• Adheres to safety precautions during use of electrosurgical units, lasers, and any surgical equipment.
• Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
