About The Position

The Lead Surgical Assistant supports surgeons during surgical procedures by anticipating the needs of the surgical team, ensuring a sterile environment, and providing mentorship to other surgical assistants. They provide expert assistance in complex surgeries and contribute to the overall coordination and efficiency of the operating room.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a surgical assistant, with a proven track record stepping up as a leader.
Proficient in surgical techniques and procedures.
Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Ability to work under pressure and make quick, effective decisions.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Commitment to maintaining a sterile environment and adhering to safety protocols.
Positive attitude, change advocate, able to lead by example

Responsibilities

Take panoramic x-rays & 3D scans.
Ensure anesthesia prep has been successfully completed.
Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly before procedures.
Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure with the surgical team.
Assist in positioning patients for surgery.
Assist the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies during surgery.
Maintain a sterile field throughout the procedure.
Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and have necessary instruments ready.
Monitor the patient’s vital signs.
Explain post-operative care to patients.
Apply dressings to surgical wounds.
Assist in transferring patients to the recovery room.
Train junior surgical assistants and support staff.
Answer questions and mentor the surgical team.
As needed, assist in managing the schedule of the surgical team.
Ensure compliance with policies, safety regulations, and infection control protocols.
Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, patient information, and equipment use.
Participate in clinical team meetings and contribute to the improvement of clinical services.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless patient care.
