About The Position

Building our work for publicly- and privately-owned utilities, financial institutions and local governments, we are able to provide our clients with business insight into all sectors of the infrastructure industry. This position will consist of performing design reviews of the aforementioned civil/structural design components in support of the development of bid/construction packages for substation projects. Candidate will primarily function as a senior engineer leading project, performing design reviews, as well as developing junior staff members. Experience with design and review for structures and foundations to industry codes and standards under seismic loading conditions is required. Site-visits to client substation facilities are expected to be part of the work, along with occasional travel for client meetings and industry-related events. Candidate must comply with quality control and safe work practices and maintain compliance with project scope, schedule and budget expectations. This position will be a senior member of a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and drafting technicians, and will be expected to manage and work on projects for multiple clients concurrently.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering and 8+ years of structural design engineering and review experience.
  • Strong educational background in design of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundations.
  • Experience performing and reviewing substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, oil spill containment design, retaining walls, concrete and masonry control shelters, and firewalls.
  • Proven client management experience, with the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships while managing expectations.
  • Experience with design and review for structures and foundations to industry codes and standards under seismic loading conditions.
  • Bachelors of Science (BS) degree in Civil-Structural Engineering and 8+ years of relevant experience, or Masters (MS) with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • PE License in California, required.
  • Proven client management and business communication experience, required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint & MATHCAD software, required.
  • Experience with RISA 3D or/and STAAD.Pro or/and SAP2000, SAG10, FAD or/and LPile software, required.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation required.
  • Strong familiarity with current industry standards, design codes, and design guides (e.g., ASCE, AISC, ACI, IBC), required.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Team player with ability to communicate with clients and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within the electric utility industry - either working directly for a utility or an engineering consultancy.
  • Prior engineering work experience in California.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) License in any state is preferred.
