Lead Substation Engineer
About The Position
E2 Consulting Engineers, LP (E2) is a professional services firm established in 1988 specializing in a full spectrum of engineering services including, project engineering and design, federal base operations and infrastructure support services, gas pipeline construction and inspection services, environmental consulting and remediation, and information technology services. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading a design team for deliverables associated with Protection & Control substation projects supporting one of our largest electric utility clients in Southern California. The deliverables include one-line & three-line diagrams, AC & DC elementary & logic diagrams, front & rear panel elevations and wiring, supervisory & control drawings, electrical vendor equipment wiring diagrams, complete cable schedule and bill of materials. The successful candidate will report directly to the Substation Engineering Manager
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university.
- 10+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
- Experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience performing quality reviews of substation engineering drawing packages.
- Strong knowledge of substation systems (up to 500 kV), protection and control
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MicroStation, or similar design tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Professional Engineer’s License in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required.
- Experience with substation design and construction standards for electric utilities in California is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Leads substation P&C design team, including the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and estimates, staffing plan and project schedules.
- Serve as the technical lead for P&C substation projects from conceptual design through detailed engineering.
- Assign engineering tasks and coordinate workload among engineers, designers, drafters, and supporting disciplines.
- Performs careful QA/QC review activities submitted by junior engineers to ensure a quality product.
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client, and others as needed.
- Ensure all designs conform to client and industry standards.
- Utilize client and/or company information system to track and update design activities.
- Attend job site meetings to gather scope of work.
- May provide field support during construction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
