About The Position

Responsible for leading structural design project teams and making civil and structural deliverables for engineering and construction projects. This role involves performing civil and structural engineering deliverables, including the design and analysis of structural steel and foundations in the heavy industrial sector, particularly in power, chemical, metals, and oil & gas industries. The position requires advising on design principles and standards, developing and revising engineering design procedures and technical specifications, and creating sketches and coordinating 3D models. The Lead Structural Engineer will also lead design reviews and lessons learned sessions, provide cost estimating support for proposals, and manage multiple projects concurrently. Key responsibilities include coordinating design operations, organizing staff, allocating and reviewing work, providing technical advice, and offering support on construction or operating sites. Additionally, the role involves providing technical oversight, mentorship, and peer review within the design team, monitoring project status, and assisting in staff recruitment. Effective communication of company principles and performing other assigned duties are also expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil or structural engineering with experience in civil/structural design for heavy industry.
  • Display a good working knowledge of industry standard design practices, good mechanical aptitude and general knowledge of engineering.
  • Understanding of design code standards and specifications (ASME, ASCE, ACI, AISC, IBC).
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Proficient in the use of structural design and analysis tools (STAAD, or similar) and knowledgeable about the use of 3D model tools (Advanced Steel, SDS, or similar) in the engineering discipline.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word with intermediate skills in Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to organize, allocate, prioritize, review, instruct and train work of subordinates.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with all levels in the company.
  • Ability to attain and promote good customer relationships (both internal and external).

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cost estimating support for civil/structural proposals (hours, quantities, etc.).
  • Performance of multiple projects on a continuous basis.
  • Coordinate the activities of the design operation including organizing staff, allocating, prioritizing, and reviewing the work of subordinates, providing technical advice and instruction.
  • Provides technical support on construction or operating sites, as needed.
  • Provide technical oversight, mentorship, and peer review in the Design team.
  • Monitor and report weekly on the status of current civil/structural design projects.
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection of structural design team staff.
  • Effectively communicate and project the principles of the Talent Advantaged Roadmap.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.
