Wells Fargo•New York, NY
•$143,000 - $224,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Strategy & Planning Consultant, Vice President, for its Wealth & Investment Management (WIM) Strategy team. The role supports the Head of WIM Strategy, the Strategy leadership team, WIM business leaders, and members of the WIM Operating Committee in shaping business innovation, growth opportunities, and strategic priorities. The consultant owns strategy workstreams from problem definition through executive recommendation, develops the analytics and executive materials used for decisions, and helps advance business transformation and sustainable long-term growth in a changing competitive and regulatory environment. The role also provides guidance to less experienced colleagues. The successful candidate brings either a strong management consulting toolkit or deep wealth management industry knowledge, with the ability to develop in the other area. Relevant domain knowledge includes client segments, advisor models, platform capabilities, investment products, regulation, and competitive dynamics. Success also requires working effectively in a matrixed organization, building cross-functional partnerships, influencing without authority, and demonstrating urgency and accountability. The role currently offers a hybrid work schedule and is based at 500 West 33rd Street in New York, NY. Some travel is required. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are not offered. Specific compliance policies may apply to outside activities and personal investing. The base pay range is $143,000–$224,000, and employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of Strategy and Planning experience, or equivalent experience demonstrated through work, training, military experience, education, or a combination.
  • Strong structured problem solving, critical thinking, quantitative rigor, and concise executive communication, or substantial wealth management domain depth; candidates may enter strong in one dimension and develop the other.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a large-scale, complex matrixed organization, build partnerships, and influence without authority.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn insights into actionable plans and communicate effectively in writing and verbally across audiences and levels.
  • Ability to bring structure to ambiguity, prioritize independently, and follow through in a fast-moving environment.
  • Ability to work at one of the locations in the job posting.
  • Some travel required.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 5 years of progressively increasing responsibility across management consulting, corporate strategy, product strategy, or a wealth management product, field, or finance role.
  • An innovation mindset and ability to use emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve business performance; experience building AI agents or workflows into work practices.
  • Exposure to one or more of digital and self-directed wealth; partnerships, corporate development, or M&A; workplace wealth, including stock plan and retirement; deposit, lending, and trust growth within a wealth channel; digital assets; or operational and process improvement.
  • Advanced quantitative modeling skills and ability to produce executive-quality materials without a supporting analyst.
  • Experience developing product, capability, or investment roadmaps and translating strategic priorities into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience contributing to Board of Directors or Investor Day strategy materials, or to an annual strategic planning cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned strategic plans and analyses that position WIM for long-term growth; draft sections and build exhibits for the annual strategic plan and strategy presentations for the Board of Directors and Investor Day.
  • Support the 3–5 year strategic vision and growth plan for assigned WIM businesses, including advisory, brokerage, digital and self-directed wealth, deposits, lending, and trust.
  • Own digital and self-directed wealth strategy workstreams, including client segmentation, the self-directed-to-advised funnel, pricing and digital engagement economics, and analysis supporting build, buy, or partner recommendations.
  • Own workplace wealth strategy workstreams across stock plan, equity compensation, and retirement offerings; support partnership diligence, economics, and negotiations with Legal, Risk, Finance, Product, and Corporate Development.
  • Develop analysis and business cases for growth in deposits, securities-based and mortgage lending, and trust and fiduciary relationships, including cash and sweep economics, client primacy, and channel-level opportunity sizing.
  • Evaluate emerging areas such as digital assets by assessing regulatory developments, competitor moves, client demand, and intangible or unprecedented factors.
  • Identify and size AI-enabled organizational efficiency opportunities across WIM and partner with business owners to turn them into implementable changes.
  • Develop competitive and market intelligence on client expectations, advisor needs, regulatory developments, and technology innovations across wealth managers, RIAs, asset managers, digital wealth platforms, private banks, and fintech entrants.
  • Coordinate alignment with firmwide and cross-line-of-business objectives, including Consumer Banking and Lending, Commercial Banking, Corporate and Investment Banking, and Corporate Strategy.
  • Build transparent, reviewable analytics for decisions, including market and competitor sizing, client and advisor economics, business cases, and scenario models.
  • Use AI agents and tooling as the default method for research, modeling, competitive monitoring, and presentation development, and help improve the team’s toolchain.
  • Communicate insights, strategic recommendations, and execution roadmaps to senior leaders and stakeholders across WIM.
  • Make decisions in complex situations, influence and lead the broader work team to meet deliverables and drive initiatives, and guide less experienced staff.
