About The Position

Comfy is seeking its first finance hire, a Lead, Strategic Finance, to build the analytical backbone of the company. As the company experiences rapid growth with 4 million users, a scaling cloud business, and a recent $30M funding round, the current finance operations (spreadsheets, outsourced bookkeeping, founder intuition) are no longer sufficient. This is a hands-on, builder's role where you will create the financial model, planning processes, and unit economics for a compute-heavy AI business from scratch. You will be responsible for turning data into actionable decisions for the founders, bringing financial rigor to a team that has been operating on instinct. This role offers a unique opportunity to own finance end-to-end early in the company's lifecycle, with the potential for the function and your scope to grow as the company scales.

Requirements

6+ years in strategic finance, FP&A, investment banking, private equity, consulting, or a high-growth startup finance team with hands-on ownership.
Exceptional modeling skills, capable of building a clean three-statement model and providing fast back-of-the-envelope answers.
Data-fluent, comfortable extracting own answers (SQL or BI experience is a strong plus).
Understanding of usage-based/consumption business models and COGS-heavy economics (AI, infrastructure, or compute experience is a bonus).
Scrappy and self-directed, with experience building functions from 0 to 1.
Ability to own both strategy and operational plumbing in a small team environment.
Operates from first principles with high agency and low ego.
Biases toward action, communicates proactively, and owns outcomes end-to-end.
Based in San Francisco or willing to relocate.

Nice To Haves

Experience at an open-source, developer-tools, or creator-tools company.
Experience participating in a fundraise as the person behind the model and metrics.
Experience establishing an FP&A or strategic finance function from scratch.
Familiarity with Comfy or AI creative tools.

Responsibilities

Build the financial model from scratch, owning the company's three-statement model, budget, and forecast.
Run FP&A end-to-end, driving budgeting, forecasting, and the planning cadence.
Track actuals vs. plan, explain variances, and translate numbers into clear recommendations.
Analyze and understand unit economics, including cost-to-serve, GPU/inference COGS, gross margin, and retention/expansion.
Pull data, build KPI dashboards, and transform messy data into clean insights.
Model financial scenarios for pricing, hiring, compute spend, and new initiatives.
Support fundraising efforts and board meetings by building investor and board materials and owning key metrics.
Partner with Go-To-Market and Product teams on pricing, packaging, and monetization strategies.
Track cash and runway, and manage relationships with outsourced accounting and payroll partners.
