Delta Dental Plan of Michigan, Inc. seeks a full-time Lead SQL Server Database Administrator based in Farmington Hills, MI.
The Lead SQL Server Database Administrator leads, oversees, and coordinates the installation, patching, performance, security, and capacity management of database management systems for the enterprise. Acts as a subject matter expert for one or more database management systems providing guidance on best practices and operational support of those platforms. Position is a hybrid position with an in-office requirement. Worker must live within a commutable distance of Farmington Hills, MI and be able to work in-office as required. #LI-DNI #IND-DNI

Requirements

• This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and five (5) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator.
• Must also have five (5) years of experience (which may have been gained concurrently) with each of the following: 1) applying advanced knowledge of SQL Server database internals, objects, and processes; 2) advanced query optimization techniques and the latest security features; 3) using PowerShell scripting language to create monitoring and automation tasks including but not limited to capacity planning, health checks, database refreshes, migrations, password changes, and builds; 4) troubleshooting complex database problems such as performance, corruption, and recovery; 5) implementing and supporting high availability solutions for database systems; 6) Cloud database migration and administration; 7) working autonomously and with multiple teams when necessary to triage database system performance issues; and 8) mentoring and providing guidance to team members on SQL best practices and efficiency improvements.
• Must also have two (2) years of experience (which may have been gained concurrently) with each of the following: 1) designing and implementing backup and recovery strategies using Rubrik and DataDomain; 2) creating, managing, and working with SQL Server’s Central Management Server functionality and interconnectivity to other RDBMS including but not limited to PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL; and 3) leading SQL Server upgrade project for a large enterprise.
• All experience may have been gained concurrently.
• Experience must have been acquired after completion of the Bachelor’s Degree program.
• Required availability for 24x7 oncall rotation support.
• Position is a hybrid position with an in-office requirement. Worker must live within a commutable distance of Farmington Hills, MI and be able to work in-office as required.

Responsibilities

• Oversees team adherence to ITIL processes and procedures, SQL Server best practices, and Security protocols.
• Leads and coordinates team response to vulnerability findings, adhering to strict protection level agreements, including but not limited to HIPAA/HITRUST, CMMC, SOC II.
• Designs, and manages robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity and minimize data loss.
• Collaborates with stakeholders from the business, application development, data, and architecture teams to implement new solutions that meet the evolving needs of the business.
• Plans, coordinates, and executes database and application upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtime.
• Conducts proactive capacity planning to forecast future storage, performance, and resource needs based on usage trends and business growth.
• Provides expert-level technical support, incident management, and root-cause analysis for complex production issues.
• Creates and maintains comprehensive documentation for database standards, architecture, and operational procedures. Responsible for deciding all updates to standards, processes, and procedures and signing off on all documentation created by other team members.
• Assists with recruitment selection, training, and mentoring of team.
