Requirements

  • MA approved school of Radiologic Technology
  • ARRT Vascular Intervention Certification
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technology (Vascular Interventional Radiology Certification)
  • 5 years related clinical experience

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • Monitors patients' vital signs. Reports any changes in status as appropriate.
  • Assists interventionalist in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions, as necessary.
  • Participates in evaluation and acquisition of new products and supplies. Is considered a superuser of advanced devices and imaging techniques.
  • Responsible for training of new and existing staff in the department on new equipment and techniques. Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Administers medications to patients under the supervision of attending physician.
  • Plans, implements, documents, and evaluates all aspects of radiation safety and monitoring of radiographic procedural modifications.
  • Develops and implements yearly education plan for the department staff.
  • Leads implantation of new procedures and techniques.
