About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Lead Software QA Engineer, Robotics and Automation to join their team. This role is responsible for building and leading a pre-release software validation function within Software Development. The position combines software quality assurance, unit testing oversight, cybersecurity validation, process development, and hands-on operation of laboratory automation equipment. Success in this role includes establishing a repeatable pre-release testing process, implementing measurable quality standards, validating software releases prior to independent QA testing, and effectively diagnosing issues spanning software, hardware, and system integrations. This position requires regular hands-on work within a laboratory automation and production-emulation environment in addition to standard computer-based work. Requirements

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering with 5 or more years of experience; or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering with 3 or more years of experience.
  • 3 or more years of experience developing test automation tools using Python, Java, C#, C++, or similar programming languages.
  • 3 or more years of experience creating, executing, and maintaining functional, integration, regression, or system-level software test plans.
  • 3 or more years of experience reviewing, developing, or maintaining unit tests within a software development lifecycle.
  • 2 or more years of experience using AI-enabled tools to support software testing, unit test coverage analysis, code review, or quality validation activities.
  • 2 or more years of experience performing static code analysis, dynamic application testing, dependency scanning, vulnerability assessment, or cybersecurity validation activities.
  • 2 or more years of experience supporting software deployment or release processes for embedded systems, automation systems, or equipment-controlled software.
  • 2 or more years of experience troubleshooting integrated software and hardware systems.
  • 1 or more years of experience operating, testing, or validating automated equipment, robotics systems, industrial controls, or comparable electromechanical systems.
  • 2 or more years of experience using defect tracking platforms such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or equivalent systems.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail when performing software validation and defect analysis activities.
  • Ability to establish structure, processes, and documentation within a newly created function.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to software engineers, controls engineers, quality teams, and management.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across software, hardware, controls, and quality organizations.
  • Ability to prioritize testing activities across multiple software releases and projects.
  • Understanding of software quality assurance methodologies and software development lifecycle practices.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles applicable to software-controlled equipment and automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Execute pre-release test plans for software builds prior to transfer to the independent QA organization.
  • Develop scripts and tools supporting functional, regression, integration, and system testing activities.
  • Identify, document, track, and verify software defects through resolution.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to reproduce issues and validate corrective actions.
  • Provide release readiness recommendations to Software Development leadership.
  • Review unit test coverage across software components and identify validation gaps.
  • Develop and maintain unit tests for critical software modules.
  • Establish unit test coverage metrics and incorporate coverage targets into release readiness criteria.
  • Utilize AI-assisted tools to support unit test review, generation, and coverage analysis.
  • Perform static code analysis, dynamic application testing, dependency scanning, and vulnerability assessments.
  • Validate secure deployment processes, credential management controls, network configurations, and system access controls.
  • Assess software and equipment for unintended services, open ports, and cybersecurity risks.
  • Evaluate cybersecurity considerations associated with third-party software and hardware integrations.
  • Utilize AI-assisted tools to support cybersecurity analysis and compliance validation activities.
  • Operate production-equivalent Alpha laboratory automation systems.
  • Perform system startup, shutdown, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Execute representative production workflows to validate software behavior under operating conditions.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving robotics, machine vision systems, barcode printers and readers, pneumatic systems, VFD-controlled conveyors, sensors, and serial communication devices.
  • Partner with hardware and controls engineering teams to diagnose software, hardware, and integration-related issues.
  • Develop, document, and maintain repeatable pre-release testing processes and standards.
  • Define workflows, documentation requirements, and validation procedures for the pre-release testing function.
  • Establish release handoff criteria and documentation standards for the independent QA organization.
  • Recommend and implement testing frameworks, tools, and processes supporting robotics and automation environments.
