About The Position

The Managed Runtime is a technology platform at Salesforce that serves javascript-backed websites and services at massive scale (100s of millions of requests in a day, millions of sessions) using AWS serverless technologies. Our first adopters are customer and partner developers working on headless commerce sites in Commerce Cloud, but also serve sites for customers integrating with Salesforce sites for Marketing Cloud use cases beyond commerce. Managed runtime control plane service is deployed in Hyperforce, Salesforce’s Public Cloud infrastructure on 22 core FDs. Team operates a total of 23 control plane instances across Core and Commerce FDs. Fun fact: MRT served 4Billion page views during the week of Thanksgiving, 2025

Requirements

  • Good general knowledge of data structures, web application deployment patterns and networking
  • Experience working on a team that has built a large web application
  • Extensive experience using backend development languages like Python, Java and experience with MVC frameworks, relational databases and Object-Relational mappers
  • Implemented asynchronous tasks with a queue in a distributed system, using tools like Celery, Resque, Rqueue, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS, or Redis
  • Worked with complex deployments on AWS or other cloud providers, using tools like AWS Cloudformation, Terraform and Kubernetes
  • Used CDN infrastructure like Akamai, AWS Cloudfront or Cloudflare
  • Experience crafting Continuous Integration and Delivery workflows using tools like Jenkins, Spinnaker or Helm Charts
  • Strong communicator who loves to collaborate with a team, and can speak, write and use diagrams to convey complex ideas
  • Growth mindset and experience growing other Engineers

Responsibilities

  • Write, test and release server-side Python, Java and JavaScript code early and often
  • Collaborate in code and design review, and security assessment processes to create higher quality, secure, maintainable systems
  • Build products with a cross functional product development team including product managers, designers and other engineers
  • Use Python with Django and Flask to orchestrate deployments to our AWS-based hosting environment
  • Use AWS technologies, and Node.js to create performant, scalable and fault tolerant deployments of Salesforce and partner developed code deployed on our infrastructure
