About The Position

The Validation team at the PACCAR Technical Center is seeking a hands-on Lead Software Engineer to develop software and data solutions that improve validation efficiency, consistency, and quality. The role defines and delivers automation, standardized reporting, data pipelines, portals, dashboards, engineering toolchains, user interfaces, and appropriate AI-enabled capabilities. It combines software engineering with systems-level architectural thinking to turn validation needs into secure, reusable, and supportable solutions. Validation teams own validation methods and priorities; this role owns solution architecture, technical direction, and software delivery quality. The Lead Software Engineer owns the architecture, technical strategy, delivery, adoption, and lifecycle of validation software, data platforms, and automation. The position leads and contributes to production-quality software and data solutions, establishes modern engineering practices, and provides technical leadership across organizational boundaries. Solutions must align with PACCAR architecture, cybersecurity, data-governance, and operational requirements. PACCAR is a Fortune 500 company established in 1905 and a global leader in commercial vehicles, financial services, and customer support. Its internationally recognized truck brands include Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of engineering experience, including at least 5 years of software, data, platform, or automation engineering experience, with substantial hands-on development and technical leadership.
  • Advanced recent experience with Python and SQL.
  • Demonstrated systems thinking and architectural judgment across software, data, interfaces, users, security, and operations.
  • Experience delivering production software, data pipelines, automation, and user-facing data products.
  • Experience integrating existing enterprise systems through APIs, services, databases, or lakehouse platforms.
  • Experience with source control, automated testing, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle support.
  • Experience creating portals, dashboards, analytics applications, reports, or engineering interfaces, with attention to usability and effective data visualization.
  • Ability to lead through influence, review technical designs and code, mentor contributors, communicate tradeoffs, and work effectively across validation, engineering, and enterprise teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data engineering, or a related computing discipline.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States and able to maintain that authorization throughout employment without employer sponsorship; visa sponsorship or immigration support is not available.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with C#/.NET for Microsoft and enterprise-platform integration.
  • Experience with TypeScript or JavaScript for portal and user-interface development.
  • Experience integrating and extending Microsoft platforms and tools, including Azure, Power Platform, Power BI, Microsoft 365, and related cloud or hybrid services.
  • Experience with vehicle, test, measurement, telemetry, calibration, or validation data.
  • Experience with machine-learning or AI solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Assess validation workflows, data, tools, reporting needs, access constraints, and inefficiencies, then define a phased technical roadmap for shared solutions that reduce manual effort and improve consistency, traceability, and reuse.
  • Own the end-to-end architecture, technical strategy, delivery, adoption, and lifecycle of validation software, data platforms, and automation solutions.
  • Set technical direction across reporting, data pipelines, portals, services, development toolchains, analytics, user interfaces, and enterprise integrations.
  • Evaluate and leverage existing enterprise platforms, shared services, data sources, and APIs before developing standalone solutions; integrate capabilities across the Microsoft ecosystem and other established PACCAR systems where appropriate.
  • Lead and contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of production-quality software and data solutions.
  • Define scalable, secure data pipelines and access patterns connecting vehicle, test, measurement, engineering-tool, and business data into governed, traceable, reusable data products.
  • Design portals, dashboards, analytics applications, reports, and user interfaces that make validation data understandable and actionable through consistent metrics, shared definitions, and standardized reporting methods.
  • Create reusable tools, frameworks, services, data products, and AI-enabled capabilities that serve as shared validation infrastructure, accelerate engineering delivery, improve decision quality, and reduce duplicated effort.
  • Establish and drive organization-wide adoption of modern practices for architecture and code quality, source control, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, security, monitoring, documentation, and operational support.
  • Remove systemic bottlenecks and raise the standard for software delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership across organizational boundaries, influence investment and architectural decisions, mentor and develop engineers, resolve complex cross-system issues, and build organizational capability that reduces key-person dependency.
  • Align solutions with PACCAR architecture, cybersecurity, data-governance, and operational requirements.
