About The Position

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within Commercial & Investment Banking – Markets Tech – Trading / Derivatives Execution Tech, you will contribute to an agile team building and delivering secure, stable, and scalable technology products. This hands-on, operations-oriented role supports the reliability, performance, and operational integrity of electronic and equities trading systems, with a focus on FIX protocol connectivity. You will partner with trading, technology, and development teams to maintain stable order flow, respond rapidly to incidents, and execute changes with discipline. The work emphasizes Python automation, Linux troubleshooting, and Grafana-based observability, with C++ exposure used primarily to investigate issues and collaborate with application development teams. The role also supports Kafka on AWS, production incident management, root-cause analysis, operational automation, and the adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices. It includes promoting safe and secure use of AI tools, applying validation standards, and improving software delivery and operational outcomes.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and at least 5 years of applied experience.
  • Advanced capability in one or more programming languages, frameworks, and tools, such as Python, C++, Bash, or Grafana.
  • Demonstrated DevOps or SRE experience in a mission-critical, low-latency environment, with accountability for uptime and incident execution.
  • Practical understanding of the FIX protocol.
  • Strong Linux troubleshooting skills, including log analysis, process and resource diagnostics, and command-line proficiency.
  • Ability to collaborate across trading, operations, and engineering teams and communicate clearly during time-sensitive incidents.
  • Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods, with advanced understanding of agile practices such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
  • Experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, and setting expectations for validating outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and security and resiliency expectations; experience coaching engineers in safe, compliant adoption.
  • Proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline, such as cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of electronic or equities trading environments, including order lifecycle concepts and trading-impacting incident patterns.
  • C++ exposure sufficient to assist with investigations, such as reading stack traces and interpreting logs and component behavior; the role does not require being a primary feature developer.
  • Familiarity with ATLAS or similar internal platforms and tooling for production operations or engineering enablement.
  • Familiarity with incident management practices, including runbooks, post-incident reviews, alert quality management, and operational readiness.
  • Basic networking knowledge relevant to connectivity and performance troubleshooting, such as TCP/IP behavior, port connectivity, and latency sensitivity.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and deliver software solutions, using creative approaches to address technical problems.
  • Provide daily production support for electronic trading platforms, including FIX sessions and protocols, connectivity health, and order and trade workflow stability.
  • Monitor system health and trading-impacting signals through Grafana dashboards and alerting, including latency, errors, throughput, and availability.
  • Lead incident triage and restoration during service degradation, including structured troubleshooting, stakeholder communications, and post-incident follow-up.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on recurring issues and implement lasting remediation through runbook improvements, alert tuning, and operational automation.
  • Develop and debug production code and Python scripts for health checks, operational workflows, reporting, and environment validation.
  • Operate and support Kafka on AWS, including topic and partition design, consumer groups, throughput and latency tuning, security and permissions, and production troubleshooting.
  • Promote enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices, establish standards for validating outputs, and encourage reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Use software development lifecycle tools, including authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value of automation.
  • Troubleshoot Linux systems using logs, process and resource diagnostics, and network-level checks relevant to connectivity and application behavior.
  • Partner with development teams to investigate trading-system issues by interpreting logs, traces, and diagnostic output from components implemented in C++.
