About The Position

As a Lead Software Engineer within JPMorganChase’s AI/ML Data Platforms (AMDP) Data Governance Engineering team, you will help build enterprise-scale data platforms and deliver core data capabilities that support firm-wide innovation. The role involves end-to-end software delivery for Java- and Python-based services, batch jobs, and data pipelines, along with the design and development of platform capabilities that support data governance and processing. You will work independently or with a distributed agile team, collaborating across global time zones while maintaining ownership and accountability for delivery. You will also contribute to engineering communities, improve internal libraries and utilities, and evaluate emerging technologies. The role uses enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development tools, with outputs subject to validation through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding practices.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience and formal training or certification in software engineering concepts.
• Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability in production environments.
• Full-stack development experience with Spring, Java, Python, Hibernate, Spark/PySpark, AWS cloud technologies, and Databricks.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL; familiarity with NoSQL databases and data modeling concepts.
• Ability to learn additional coding languages and technologies, with enthusiasm for continuous technical and business learning.
• Knowledge of the data lifecycle, including ingestion, validation, transformation, storage, governance and lineage considerations, and consumption patterns.
• Ability to develop, debug, and maintain code in large enterprise environments with established controls and standards.
• Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery, application resiliency, security best practices, observability, and monitoring.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools and ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated outputs.
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations.

Nice To Haves

• AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Developer, or advanced-level certification.
• Proficiency across the data management lifecycle.
• Skill in resolving code issues and proficiency with Git for repository management and team collaboration.
• Familiarity with modern front-end technologies, especially React.JS and Angular.

Responsibilities

• Deliver software end to end, including design, development, testing, deployment, and technical troubleshooting for Java- and Python-based services, batch jobs, and data pipelines.
• Develop data processing, API services, scripting, and automation, with attention to performance, reliability, and testing discipline.
• Create design artifacts for complex workflows, including pipeline orchestration, processing logic, dependency and failure handling, and service-level objectives.
• Gather, analyze, and synthesize data to produce reports, metrics, and visualizations supporting business and operational insights.
• Identify data and pipeline execution problems and patterns, including data quality issues, drift, anomalies, and bottlenecks, and drive system improvements.
• Work independently or as part of a distributed agile team to deliver projects on time with ownership and accountability, including collaboration across global time zones.
• Contribute to engineering communities, improve internal libraries and utilities, and evaluate emerging technologies where appropriate.
• Use enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity, validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
• Apply software development lifecycle toolchain, Agile methodology, and automation capabilities to improve delivery speed and the value realized by automation.
