About The Position

This remote position may be hired in several U.S. markets, with priority given to candidates located in North Carolina, Florida, Texas, and Arizona. The Lead Software Engineer is responsible for all phases of software development, from requirements definition through installation. The role leads technical efforts in the design, development, deployment, production implementation, and maintenance of complex systems in Direct Bank technologies. It develops development and test plans, software, and procedures to improve processing capabilities, supports production systems by resolving complex issues, and ensures ongoing functionality. The position serves as a technical expert and may lead or mentor less experienced associates.

The role leads system enhancements and major projects, supports production applications, develops technical solutions to unique system problems, and provides technical insight to management, associates, and business units. It also analyzes user requests and inspects specifications, code, testing, documentation, and implementation plans. A rotating 24/7 on-call commitment is required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 6 years of experience in software application development and maintenance, or a high school diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in software application development and maintenance.
• Ability to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on a rotating basis.

Nice To Haves

• Experience implementing and managing REST APIs for application integration and communication.
• Experience integrating identity and access management solutions, specifically OKTA, for SSO and SAML authentication.
• Hands-on experience with microservice design and APIs, and knowledge of ESB platforms such as Mule or Tibco.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and ensure integrations align with business needs.
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving middleware, API integration, and authentication issues.
• Experience working with development teams to apply best practices in middleware design, security, and performance.
• Advanced experience with Azure DevOps or a similar code repository system.
• Advanced experience with ServiceNow or another IT service ticketing system.
• Proven ability to resolve conflicting situations and move processes and people forward.
• In-depth knowledge and experience with system life cycle development methodologies such as Waterfall and Agile.
• Experience with programming languages and technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, SQL scripting, and PowerShell scripting.
• Current contractor or contingent worker for First Citizens Bank.

Responsibilities

• Lead team efforts to evaluate and improve department systems, processes, and applications.
• Use programming specifications to construct modules, develop testing methods, and assist with designing training materials.
• Design and execute test plans to validate application functions.
• Design modifications that fit within existing system architecture.
• Provide technical support for production systems by addressing complex issues, anticipating maintenance requirements, and ensuring functionality for end-user needs.
• Develop technical solutions to unique system problems.
• Lead major projects, delegate tasks, and ensure quality results.
• Mentor and train associates within the work group.
• Participate in special projects and meetings to convey critical technical insight.
• Serve as a technical resource for management, associates, and business units.
• Collect data related to user requests and determine scope, time estimates, and system impacts.
• Inspect business specifications, programming specifications, code, test plans, documentation, and implementation plans for accuracy.
• Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call rotation.
