About The Position

Bold Orange (BOCO) is a customer experience company focused on creating authentic human connections across the customer lifecycle. Our culture is one of curiosity, collaboration, proactivity, and a future-focused perspective. This is a lead-level, hands-on data engineering role centered on Snowflake. You will own the technical solution for your accounts end to end, from discovery and requirements through architecture, build, and production. You will be the go-to person for how the data platform should work. Leads at Bold Orange handle critical and complex engineering work, contribute significantly to the team's code, set technical direction, establish engineering practices, and enhance the effectiveness of other engineers. Deep Snowflake expertise is central to this role, as Snowflake powers a SaaS platform and a growing share of our client data work. We also work with Redshift and Databricks. You will collaborate with solution architects, other data engineers, project managers, and client teams across multiple concurrent engagements.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with the majority of it in data engineering.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership: owning the technical solution for an account, engagement, or team, and being accountable for work beyond your own.
  • Deep hands-on Snowflake expertise: production experience designing data models and warehouses, building ELT/ETL pipelines, and writing performant SQL on the platform.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a data model or data platform design from requirements through production, not just implementation of someone else's design.
  • Experience leading discovery and shaping a technical solution directly with clients or business stakeholders, not only delivering against a specification handed to you.
  • Ability to estimate and plan work accurately at the system and project level.
  • Working knowledge of Snowflake performance tuning, cost optimization, and security and governance, including warehouse sizing, clustering, and RBAC.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and C# for back-end development, with recent hands-on work in both.
  • Hands-on experience with relational SQL databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs.
  • Practical DevOps experience: CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and server configuration.
  • Comfort in both Windows Server and Linux environments.
  • A track record of establishing engineering standards or practices that other engineers followed.
  • Ability to manage and context-switch across multiple concurrent client projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including technical communication with non-technical stakeholders and the confidence to lead a design conversation with a client.

Nice To Haves

  • Agency, consultancy, or client-services experience, with multiple concurrent clients and client-facing scoping and delivery.
  • Active SnowPro certification, Core strongly preferred, Advanced (Data Engineer or Architect) a significant plus. We support and pay for certification, so a strong engineer without it is not ruled out.
  • Working fluency with AI-assisted development tools, applied with engineering judgment about where they help and where they do not.
  • Experience with recent Snowflake platform capabilities, including CoCo, CoWork, Horizon Catalog, and Horizon Context (Semantic Views).
  • Redshift and/or Databricks experience, both of which are in use at Bold Orange.
  • Azure DevOps, Azure App Services, or other Azure services.
  • HubSpot CMS, HubSpot APIs, or marketing automation platforms.
  • IIS, .NET deployment, or Windows service management.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical solution and provide overall technical oversight for your accounts, from discovery through production and ongoing support.
  • Lead discovery, intake requirements directly from clients, and present solutions and trade-offs to client stakeholders.
  • Lead the architecture and own the system design for your engagements, including the data models, warehouses, and ELT/ETL pipelines.
  • Evaluate and estimate work confidently and accurately at the system and project level.
  • Architect, build, and maintain data models, warehouses, and pipelines in Snowflake, optimizing for performance, scalability, and cost.
  • Take on the most critical, complex, and time-sensitive engineering work, and remain a prolific contributor to the team's code.
  • Develop and tune complex SQL, stored procedures, and transformations in Snowflake and supporting relational databases.
  • Apply native Snowflake capabilities where they earn their place, including Snowpipe, Streams and Tasks, dynamic tables, and external and stage integrations for near-real-time data flows.
  • Own Snowflake performance, governance, and cost management across accounts, including warehouse sizing, clustering, role-based access control, and data security.
  • Design, build, and maintain back-end APIs and services in Python and C#/.NET that feed and consume the Snowflake platform.
  • Design and own integrations with client and internal marketing, CRM, and analytics platforms, including authentication, error handling, and monitoring.
  • Own the CI/CD and deployment path for the systems you build, across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Establish, socialize, implement, measure, and iterate on engineering practices for the data practice, and raise the bar through code review, design review, and written architecture decisions.
  • Delegate effectively and multiply the team: set technical direction, review designs before code is written, pair on hard problems, and grow depth on Snowflake and back-end development.
  • Create and lead training for both internal teams and client teams on the solutions you build.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for production issues in a multi-client environment, and own the fix and the follow-up.
  • Own the majority of project-level technical communication with senior internal stakeholders and with clients, and guide the team on how to communicate well.
  • Participate in new business scoping and pursuits in your area of expertise.
  • Contribute to the agency's technical reputation through internal knowledge sharing and external representation such as writing, industry events, and panels.
  • Evaluate new platform capabilities and AI-assisted development tooling, and bring the ones that hold up into how the team works.
