About The Position

Service is the foundation of everything we stand for at Vail Resorts and our Ski Patrol team is no exception to ensuring this experience of a lifetime. Responsible for the safety of staff and guests on the mountain, Ski Patrol are alert and dependable professionals focused on safety with the ability to remain calm in crisis when incidents arise. Responsible for leading teams of patrollers in specific disciplines of expertise and day-to-day operations on the mountain. This person will oversee the daily ski patrol functions and help coordinate with Patrol Leadership to facilitate daily projects.

Requirements

  • 5 years of previous patrol experience preferred
  • Patrol Lead or Specialist at a Vail Resort preferred
  • Pass resort Ski Patrol sponsored ski test, capable of skiing all types of terrain under all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English
  • Must have excellent guest service skills
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather in a mountain environment

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and promote guest safety on varied terrain with varying winter weather conditions
  • Assist injured/ill guests on the mountain
  • Transporting injured guests off the mountain using a toboggan or supporting air lift operations
  • Maintain trails, including hazard identification and setting up closures, safety materials, and other impacts from the resort environment
  • Have extensive knowledge of ski patrol including but not limited to: department compliance requirements, medical applications, terrain management, scheduling, weather observations, snowmobile operations, accident investigation, lift evacuation, and slope safety
  • Assist with maintaining an updated patrol SOP documentation, manuals, and training tools
  • Assist patrol leadership in daily operations including but not limited to safety meetings, organizing and assigning responsibilities, incident investigations and hiring activities
  • Facilitate training, mentorship, and support of patrol members
  • Overseeing the day to day operations of the ski patrol team
  • Administrative duties such as goal setting, documented performance management, performance appraisals, overseeing and ensuring the quality assurance of training and scheduling
  • Will be able to lead effectively in the absence of the Ski Patrol Manager
  • Will work closely with other Mountain Operations departments and managers
  • Knowledge of Mountain Operations
  • Demonstrates effective supervisory skills with regards to motivation (morale and positive reinforcement) and performance management
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills
  • Other duties as assigned
