About The Position

This role involves leading Show Automation Technicians, ensuring quality standards, and providing technical support for shows and rehearsals. The position requires advanced troubleshooting skills, knowledge of theatrical staging, and experience with control systems. The technician will operate automation consoles, manage various cues, and maintain a variety of rigging equipment. Communication and a calm, professional demeanor are essential, as is the ability to support other technical roles when needed, potentially including performing in costume.

Requirements

  • Advanced electronic and mechanical troubleshooting skills for lighting, projection, special effects, and communications equipment equivalent to the Senior Show Automation Technician.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including shows, rehearsals, and other shifts as necessary.
  • Knowledge and experience with theatrical staging and production.
  • Familiarity with design, installation, programming, and industrial/theatrical control systems.
  • Hardware, software, and network computer skills.
  • Ability to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete employment eligibility verification.
  • A valid driver's license may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree and/or 6 months – 2 years of electronic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Show Automation Technicians by scheduling and assigning daily tasks, providing clear instructions and verifying quality standards.
  • Provide coaching to improve team member performance and cover absences.
  • Offer on-call technical support during shows and rehearsals, troubleshooting equipment failures and communicating issues.
  • Perform immediate repairs to lighting, projection, special effects, communications, and other show-related equipment.
  • Manage the care and operation of automation consoles, software, and equipment during show times.
  • Operate flight, vehicle, and effect cues from automation consoles, including drops, tabs, effects, ramps, media, and stage lift cues.
  • Maintain knowledge of rigging equipment such as boom lifts, chain motors, power lifts, fall arrest systems, performer flying systems, knots, wire rope, and cable terminations.
  • Assist Show Automation Technicians with creating and maintaining cue sheets and checklists.
  • Serve as a communication contact with A&E, Media/Art, Deck Chief, and Stage Management during shows and technical challenges.
  • Effectively communicate and execute cues using proper headset protocol with a calm, professional demeanor.
  • Provide show support for absent Lighting/Deck Technicians and execute cues, potentially in costume.
