About The Position

Earth Work Solutions is looking for a lead shop Mechanic to oversee shop repairs and maintenance work while performing hands-on diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and support equipment. This role helps keep equipment safe, reliable, and ready for the field while supporting shop workflow and day-to-day maintenance priorities. This position is located in Gillette, WY.

Requirements

  • Strong diesel mechanic background with hands-on heavy equipment repair experience.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and complete repairs with limited oversight.
  • Ability to lead shop work, set priorities, and help others solve repair issues.
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment components.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong communication, dependability, and attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to safety and equipment reliability.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment, diesel, or fleet mechanic required.
  • Previous experience in a foreman, lead mechanic, or supervisory role required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must pass pre-employment and ongoing random drug and alcohol testing per company policy.
  • Ability to obtain PEC/SafeLand, First Aid/CPR, H2S, and MSHA, along with any other site-specific training requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or automotive technology preferred.
  • CDL preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day direction in the shop and help coordinate repair priorities.
  • Support mechanics and shop personnel with troubleshooting and repair planning.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and support equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, servicing, and routine inspections on equipment and vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related issues.
  • Support and guide other mechanics on complex repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Complete repairs on brakes, suspension, steering, driveline, cooling, fuel, and other major systems.
  • Identify worn or damaged parts and coordinate needed replacements.
  • Keep maintenance records, service notes, and repair documentation current and accurate.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop area.
  • Communicate equipment issues, repair status, and maintenance needs with operations and field personnel.
  • Assist with equipment readiness so machines can return to service with minimal downtime.
  • Follow Company safety procedures and manufacturer service guidelines.
  • All other duties as assigned
