About The Position

Performs protective services guard federally owned or leased buildings and property, protecting government equipment and material, and controlling access to Tohono O'odham Nation Sells Hospital. This position is located at the Tohono O'odham Nation Sells Hospital in Sells, Arizona. The incumbent performs a full range of security guard duties by following and executing specific rules and regulations or procedures covering law enforcement, physical and personal security, patrol duties, control desk duty, and crime prevention for the facility. Work involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations, which require a range of safety and other precautions. The incumbent is required to wear a uniform. Call-back and emergency overtime are standard requirements of the position. Work regularly includes assignments to second, third, or rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. The incumbent works independently in carrying out routine duties without instruction, knowing which methods to apply.

Requirements

High School Diploma or General Education Diploma.
Three years of work experience in a related field.
One year of supervisory experience.
Current First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or must obtain within (6) months of hire.
Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and a National FBI fingerprint check are required to determine suitability for employment, including a 39-month driving record.
May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.
Knowledge of established rules, regulations, and legal authorities to perform duties and responsibilities within prescribed limitations on the use of detention authority, the use of force, and understanding of the rights of individuals.
Knowledge of guidelines based on procedures and instructions provided, including local manuals, handbooks, limits on authority to detain individuals, responsibility for protecting property, persons, and unique organizations.
Knowledge of methods and techniques of surveillance and surveillance tools and equipment.
Knowledge of building, gas, water, and electrical shut-off in case of emergency.
Knowledge in Self-Defense.
Skill in providing superior customer service for both internal and external customers.
Ability to use judgment in identifying and applying the proper procedures and techniques in specific situations.
Ability to perform outdoor work in varying field and weather conditions.
Ability to operate two-way communications equipment.
Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to ensure public trust, both on duty and off duty, by lawful conduct and the avoidance of or appearance of any criminal act(s).
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other incumbents and the general public.

Nice To Haves

Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham language and English as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

Distributes and balances the workflow among employees per established workflow, assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assures that each incumbent has enough work to keep busy.
Keeps in touch with the status and progress of work, and makes day-to-day adjustments according to established priorities, and obtains assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs not being disposed of promptly.
Estimate and report on expected completion time, maintain records of accomplished work, and time expended, and prepare production reports as requested.
Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and create written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
Provide on-the-job training to a new employee by established procedures and practices.
Maintain current knowledge and answer questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, and obtain needed information or supervisor decisions on problems that arise.
Checks on work progress or spot checks work not requiring review and reviews completed work to see that supervisor's instructions on work sequences, procedures, methods, and meet deadlines.
Amend or reject work not meeting established standards, refer to supervisor questions on matters not covered by policies or procedures, or problems in meeting performance standards.
Ensures that working conditions are adequate.
Approve leave for a few hours or emergencies.
Informs employees of available services and activities.
Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refers to supervisor as needed.
Reports to supervisor on performance, disciplinary, progress, and training needs of staff.
Makes recommendations to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignments, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel actions.
Patrols and checks locks, alarms, fences, gates, or other barriers in the area. Patrols installation perimeters to detect faculty fences, detection equipment, trespassing violations, and attempted thefts.
Controls personnel access by monitoring the identification of individuals entering controlled Refers persons who lack proper credentials to a control point to arrange access.
Relays messages, maintain logs, and dispatches personnel and equipment to meet emergencies.
Monitors alarm systems, closed-circuit television systems, and telephone and radio networks.
Protects the scene of an incident and relinquishes control to the police or other law enforcement officials.
Detains offenders of laws for potential arrest until authorities Inform offenders of their rights.
Assist in emergencies, such as natural disasters, criminal acts in progress, medical emergencies, and similar situations.
Maintain tour of duty and incident log.
Report all disturbances to a supervisor or the Police Department, as necessary and required by policies and procedures.
Adherence to standard procedures and methods complies with any special instructions.
Provides emergency services to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
Contributes to a team effort.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
