About The Position

The Lead Sanitation Technician is responsible for assisting the Sanitation Supervisor in delegating tasks, coordinating cleaning assignments with other departments, and ensuring the sanitation team meets daily goals. This role involves conducting inventory, providing training, inspecting areas for repairs, and assisting with environmental incidents. The technician will perform cleaning duties in both cGMP Production Areas and Non-Production/Warehouse Areas, including cleaning production workstations, common areas, and equipment. They will operate various equipment such as electric pallet jacks, forklifts, man-lifts, floor scrubbers, and power washers. The position also requires completing daily documentation, reporting maintenance issues, and supporting Production and Quality teams while complying with safety, cGMP, SOP, and SQF requirements. A key aspect of the role is supporting a culture of safe production and actively participating in the safety program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) at minimum.
  • More than five years’ experience as a Sanitation Technician, Production Operator, or Warehouse Operator in a Food Manufacturing Production or Warehouse environment.
  • Licensed to drive Moving / PIT equipment such as electric pallet jacks, forklifts, and man-lifts.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as MSDS sheets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals (S.O.P.).
  • Ability to fill out sanitation/production paperwork accurately.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to operate various types of powered industrial equipment (electric pallet jack, forklift, and man-lift) required.
  • Good attention to detail skills.

  • Must regularly lift, move (in some cases drag items), slide, raise, and/or place: Up to 30 lb. force up to 25 feet and then pull to the original position.
  • Must regularly lift, move (in some cases drag items), slide, raise, and/or place: Up to 33 lbs. from 5 inches off the ground, raise to 47 inches and then return 33 lbs. to the original position.
  • Must regularly lift, move (in some cases drag items), slide, raise, and/or place: Up to 50 lbs. for 3 feet at waist level; lift bag/box onto the side and return to the original position.
  • Must regularly lift, move (in some cases drag items), slide, raise, and/or place: Up to 60 lbs. from 31-inch-high shelf and 2-hand carry for up to 5 ft. and then return 60 lbs. to 31-inch surface.
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequently exposed to herbal aromas, dust, and/or airborne particles, some of which are classified as allergens or irritants.
  • Works in all areas of NOW’s manufacturing facilities with direct exposure to ingredients (powders and liquids), mixes (powders and liquids), equipment, and packaging.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud, and in some areas, louder hearing protection is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Sanitation Supervisor in delegating tasks and cleaning assignments.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments in planning cleaning assignments.
  • Ensure the sanitation team meets daily shift goals and performance metrics.
  • Conduct daily inventory and order supplies for cleaning and sanitation.
  • Provide guidance and training for sanitation technicians.
  • Inspect areas for sanitary repairs, improvements, or preventative maintenance.
  • Assist in environmental incidents, cleaning investigations, biohazard, and chemical spill cleaning.
  • Actively participate in the training of new department employees.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Perform cleaning of Production workstations, including product contact parts, equipment, and non-product contact parts, as well as walls, ceilings, vents, and floors.
  • Clean and sanitize all common areas such as hallways, lockers, locker areas, sanitation rooms, dust collector rooms, drains, docking areas, ovens, ceiling vents, and tiles.
  • Perform deep cleaning of production workstations as requested.
  • Remove and dispose of trash and clean garbage bins.
  • Assist production personnel with changeovers and workstation cleaning.
  • Operate electric pallet jack, forklift, and man-lift to perform sanitation duties.
  • Operate floor scrubbers, power washers, and explosion-proof vacuums.
  • Check soap titrations and water temperature in tote washers.
  • Refill soap, sanitizers, paper towels, and other personal protective equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for quality and sanitation improvements.
  • Perform sanitation-related tasks including scrubbing and mopping floors, walls, and equipment; removing trash; and using proper chemicals/equipment.
  • Complete daily task documentation as required.
  • Report all repairs and maintenance issues throughout the facility on time.
  • Support Production and Quality teams through sanitation efforts and initiatives.
  • Comply with safety, cGMP, SOP, and SQF requirements.
  • Perform cleaning and sanitizing duties in Non-Production and Warehouse Areas, including cafeterias, offices, restrooms, entrances, stairwells, lockers, and conference rooms.
  • Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Clean washrooms, including sinks, toilets, and floors, and replenish bathroom supplies.
  • Clean warehouse areas, including loading docks, rails, racks, restrooms, and offices.
  • Perform deep cleaning of offices, hallways, and other common areas.
  • Operate electric pallet jack, forklift, and man-lift in Non-Production and Warehouse Areas.
  • Operate floor scrubbers, power washers, and vacuums in Non-Production and Warehouse Areas.
  • Refill soap and sanitizers in Non-Production and Warehouse Areas.
  • Support a culture of safe production and exhibit safe work practices.
  • Actively participate in the safety program by engaging in safety activities.
  • Effectively provide and accept constructive peer-to-peer feedback on safety performance.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, SOP’s, safe work practices, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Report ALL workplace incidents to supervisor immediately.
  • Communicate concerns to supervisor, report hazards, and provide input on prevention.
  • Properly use, wear, and store Personal Protective Equipment when required.
  • Participate on safety teams and/or complete safety-related activities as part of regular job responsibilities.
