About The Position

This position is for a Lead Respiratory Therapist in the Pulmonary Lab. The role involves using independent judgment and acquired knowledge to maintain a fast-paced Respiratory Department, facilitating day-to-day operations for a 24/7 department. The incumbent demonstrates leadership skills and is accountable for the quality of patient care, the financial stability, and growth of the Respiratory Department. Responsibilities include maintaining scheduling for RGH and MMH campuses, completing staff evaluations, managing staffing levels, policy review and revision, inventory management, quality improvement initiatives, facilitating daily huddles, department-specific KPIs, and staff meetings. The Lead Respiratory Therapist represents Respiratory Therapy in various activities, meetings, and committees, and works collaboratively to design and implement competency programs, orientation, and education for Cardiopulmonary (CP) staff. They are responsible for developing and conducting in-service programs and continuing education for all CP staff, providing orientation to new residents and RNs, and serving as a skilled resource to CP staff, physicians, RN educators, and ancillary support departments. The role also involves providing clinical leadership and expertise, facilitating collegial relationships, and promoting the profession of Cardiopulmonary and professional practice. Collaboration with the Quality Improvement Department is essential to ensure compliance with JCAHO, state, and federal standards. The position also includes performing safe Respiratory Therapy modalities as ordered by a physician, developing a plan of care based on assessment data and standards of care, and identifying the need for alternative actions in the treatment plan, involving the multi-disciplinary team in revisions. A strong understanding of operations is required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care program. Must provide a copy of diploma or transcript upon hire.
  • The candidate must hold the credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Must hold a current license from the State of Connecticut to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of recent skilled respiratory experience including neonatal.
  • The candidate will hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and maintain certification as required by the organization.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program Provider (NRP) or Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
