About The Position

Emory University is seeking a Lead Research Specialist for the School of Medicine - Microbiology & Immunology. This role involves performing a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures under minimal supervision. The specialist will use independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques, may assist in protocol design, and investigate alternative experimental procedures. Responsibilities include analyzing and interpreting study results, training others in laboratory techniques and equipment operation, calibrating and troubleshooting equipment, reviewing literature, monitoring laboratory processes for quality assurance, recording and analyzing data, and monitoring the handling of hazardous substances. Employees may be required to work with, take precautions against, or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. Additional duties include managing other research specialists, ordering supplies, general lab management, conducting molecular biology experiments, maintaining tissue culture lines, growing virus stocks, laboratory inventory, preparing buffers, and training graduate students. The role will involve performing experiments with human or animal influenza viruses using techniques such as fluorescence microscopy, western blot, ELISA, and other biochemical assays, maintaining detailed written records, and performing basic animal handling and husbandry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field
  • Two years of research experience
  • Equivalent combination of experience, education, and training

Responsibilities
