$172,500 - $285,800Onsite

About The Position

Salesforce is seeking a Lead Member of Technical Staff (LMTS) Release Engineer to lead release management across its Java backend services, Node.js platform layer, and iOS client apps. This role involves setting technical direction for software shipping in an agentic era, where AI agents are involved in code authoring, validation, and merging. The LMTS will be responsible for building critical pieces of the release infrastructure, acting as the senior technical voice on release strategy, and designing the trust layer for code authored by both humans and AI agents.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in release engineering, build engineering, or developer infrastructure with demonstrated technical leadership on a platform-scale system.
  • Hands-on release experience with at least two of: JVM ecosystem (Maven/Gradle, Spring Boot, JAR/WAR publishing), Node.js ecosystem (npm/pnpm/yarn, monorepos, package publishing), or iOS (Xcode build settings, code signing, provisioning profiles, App Store submission, TestFlight).
  • Working knowledge of the third ecosystem (JVM, Node.js, or iOS).
  • Deep CI/CD platform expertise (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Buildkite, CircleCI, or similar).
  • Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, or TypeScript) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi).
  • Deep understanding of Git internals (rebases, bisects, signed commits, hooks, monorepo workflows).
  • Track record of designing merge policies, branch protection, and release governance for organizations of 100+ engineers.
  • Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives end-to-end and driving alignment across engineering, security, and product.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience integrating AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot Workspace, Devin, internal agent frameworks) into a development workflow, or a clear, opinionated point of view on how that integration should work.
  • Familiarity with policy-as-code (OPA, Conftest), attestation frameworks (Sigstore, in-toto, SLSA), and supply-chain security tooling.
  • Experience running iOS releases at scale: provisioning automation, certificate rotation, App Store review handling, staged rollouts, crash-rate gating.
  • Background in incident response and on-call leadership.
  • Prior experience as the senior-most engineer in a release/build org, setting technical direction across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead release strategy across Java (Maven/Gradle, JVM services), Node.js (npm/pnpm, microservices and tooling), and iOS (Xcode, fastlane, App Store Connect, TestFlight) runtimes.
  • Architect and build infrastructure for agentic release pipelines, enabling AI coding agents to propose, validate, and ship changes safely.
  • Develop release automation and tooling, including GitHub Actions/Jenkins/Buildkite pipelines, artifact registries, iOS code signing, reproducible builds, and SBOM generation.
  • Define and enforce branching, versioning, and cut strategies, including trunk-based development, semantic versioning, release trains, and hotfix paths.
  • Implement observability and rollback mechanisms, such as deployment dashboards, canary/progressive rollouts, phased iOS rollouts, and fast rollback.
  • Ensure compliance and supply chain security, including SLSA-aligned build provenance, dependency vulnerability gating, secret scanning, and license compliance.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, set standards for design reviews, and represent release engineering in cross-org architecture forums.
