About The Position

The Lead Radiation Therapist will assist with the daily patient flow of the Radiation Oncology clinical location, evaluate/develop new process for patient care, and assisting with other activities to improve Radiation Oncology operations. Reporting to the Supervisor of Radiation Oncology, and according to established procedures, assists physicians by treating patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. In doing so, prepares treatment room, explains procedures to patients, positions patients and administers treatments. Monitors patients during therapy sessions in order to ensure patients' comfort and to observe changes in patients' condition. Simulates patient treatment according to the treatment plan and delivers prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. Designs and constructs custom treatment devices for individual patients. Acts as point of contact for on-site Radiation Oncologist to relay pertinent information regarding patient care and treatment delivery. Performs daily charging and auditing of Radiation Oncology CPT Codes. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Requirements

  • 2 year training program in Radiology Knowledge of radiation therapy procedures and equipment operation, and of physics and patience care techniques at a level acquired through an approved program in radiation therapy technology, usually lasting one year beyond radiography training.
  • Two years experience as a radiation therapist.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, allied health personnel, and other Medical Center personnel when explaining procedures and gathering and exchanging patient-related information.
  • Analytical skills necessary in order to provide accurate care instructions to patients, interpret physicians' prescriptions for treatment course and effectively duplicate treatment plan.
  • Registered with ARRT and current licensure with IEMA Department of Nuclear Safety.
  • Graduated from a 2 year Radiography Program.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
