About The Position

AlgaeCal is seeking a Lead QA Developer to join their QA team. This role focuses on ensuring the quality, stability, and reliability of their React-based storefront and internal middleware. The ideal candidate will be an expert in building systems to catch bugs, architecting clean and scalable test architectures, and troubleshooting issues. The company emphasizes a fun, collaborative, technical, and purposeful work environment, driven by the mission to end the fear of bone loss. This is an eCommerce focused role requiring significant experience in that domain, with an emphasis on automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of QA development experience with real examples of automated testing strategies built, maintained, improved, or scaled.
  • 2+ years of leadership, mentorship, or coaching experience.
  • Strong command of JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks like Cypress, Playwright, or similar tools.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into cloud-based CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with eCommerce.
  • Experience working across Shopify Hydrogen storefront and middleware.
  • Understanding of quality metrics (automation coverage, pipeline stability, test execution runtimes, flaky test reduction, production defect leakage, reporting).
  • Curiosity, technical aptitude, and willingness to dig into specialized QA areas.

  • Experience with Python, PHP, Figma, Storybook, or Jest.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain systems that catch bugs before they reach production.
  • Develop and improve automated testing strategies.
  • Architect, optimize, and scale automated testing frameworks for frontend storefronts and backend middleware.
  • Integrate automated tests into cloud-based CI/CD pipelines.
  • Provide fast, reliable feedback to developers through automation.
  • Monitor and report on quality metrics such as automation coverage, pipeline stability, test execution runtimes, flaky test reduction, and production defect leakage.
  • Conduct specialized QA tasks including API contract testing, performance profiling, load testing, and browser developer tool profiling.
  • Guide other QA developers, review their work, and support their growth.
  • Raise the technical standard of the QA team.
