About The Position

The Public Works Department is seeking an experienced Lead Property Maintenance Worker to lead a crew responsible for the care and maintenance of Town Parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, and landscaped areas at Yeargan Park. The Lead Property Maintenance worker works under general supervision from the Property Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A driver’s license valid in NC and a good driving record are required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of paid athletic field/golf course maintenance experience.
  • Must possess valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with a Tanker Endorsement or obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Must possess a valid pesticide applicator license or obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Must be able to exercise sound decision making, comply with workplace safety regulations, and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years of previous crew leadership in a team setting is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have prior athletic field experience in both natural and synthetic turf maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a crew of Property Maintenance Workers that primarily work on athletic fields, maintaining natural and synthetic turf and lining for sporting events.
  • Assists with park grounds, landscape maintenance work; operating equipment; reel mowing grass; blowing sidewalks and parking lots; and tree and shrub pruning.
  • Performs maintenance on irrigation systems; able to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair systems as needed.
  • Ability to calculate and apply pesticides and fertilizer applications.
  • Performs playground inspections and maintains those areas as needed.
  • Operates all the necessary equipment to complete assigned tasks such as dump trucks, tractors, boom sprayers, mowers, field painter, and hand tools.
  • Confers with the supervisor to plan daily work routines and resource needs of the crew.
  • Provides support for athletic programming as needed.
  • Provides support on special events throughout the Town of Garner.
  • Apply general use of pesticides to various plant materials on Park property.
  • Maintains records; maintains records of work performed.
  • Prepares and responds to all storm related incidents including snow/ice removal.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
