About The Position

The Lead Promotora(or) will conduct outreach, educational, and system navigation activities that may include tabling, promotional work, neighborhood canvassing, workshops (both in person and virtual), resource information and referral, and follow up. They are also responsible for supporting the implementation of the assigned project work plan and providing support to the team of Promotoras/es in the daily functions to meet project goals and submit reports in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with community-based direct services with monolingual or bilingual Latino communities.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience conducting outreach in diverse settings and providing community health education.
  • Must include experience providing educational activities to adults.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of leadership experience within a team specifically focused on outreach and education activities OR Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated leadership experience in a general capacity, showcasing the ability to effectively lead teams in various contexts.
  • Ability to collaborate closely and across all VyC departments with a wide range of staff, community members, partner agencies, and funders.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to effectively link community resources to the specific needs of program participants.
  • Understanding of the Promotora Model or other community leadership models and its role in creating health equity, nationally and internationally.
  • Attention to detail and effective establishment of priorities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to monitor the activities of a work plan.
  • Ability to conduct community events.
  • Ability to network with other community organizations.

  • Because of the population served, the ability to read, write and speak fluently in English and Spanish is required.
  • Effective and confident skills in word processing, email, calendar scheduling, and presentation software, for the purpose of performing data entry during events, sending, and receiving email, calendar scheduling, and running presentations.
  • Effective and confidents skills in using different platforms for virtual meetings (i.e., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, or WebEx).
  • Effective and confident tech skills to support team members with everyday technical issues in the field.
  • Valid Driver’s License or the ability to utilize a reliable alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Valid automobile liability insurance required if driving.
  • Must be able to move about in multiple indoor and outdoor work environments, up to 75% of the time.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to detect incoming visitors, recognize stakeholders, and inspect printed paperwork.
  • Must be able to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
  • Must be able to multitask without loss of efficiency or accuracy, including the ability to perform multiple duties from multiple sources.

  • Frequently moves outreach equipment weighing up to 20 pounds across worksites, into and out of vehicles, and in the community for various class and event needs.
  • Frequently communicates with community members, colleagues, community partners, and other stakeholders. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Frequently operates a computer, smart phone, and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow the work plan provided by the Supervisor for the assigned project.
  • Communicate the supervisor’s daily plan of activities to the team.
  • Maintain and organize all reports created by the team and provide them to the supervisor.
  • Report emergencies or other issues that occur in the field to the supervisor to manage.
  • Understand and work with the team to meet the requirements and restrictions for specific line items outlined in the project budget including but not limited to printing, outreach materials, office supplies, and equipment; communicate any potential budget issues to the Supervisor.
  • Provide and transport equipment and supplies needed by the team for day-to-day and events and activities.
  • Provide technical or logistical support to the team in using virtual platforms and conducting in-person outreach as needed.
  • Provide the team with information and referrals to additional resources in support of the needs of the community.
  • Regularly review and update program resources to ensure they are current, accurate, consistent, and user-friendly facilitating successful referrals for program participants.
  • Identify and secure potential sites and groups to provide information about the assigned program and its services for community members in the assigned region.
  • Proactively conduct outreach and educational activities to inform community members in culturally and linguistically relevant ways.
  • Speak to groups in person and through a virtual platform, such as Zoom.
  • Conduct outreach and education activities to inform community members about the assigned project, and refer them to program resources and services as needed.
  • Conduct outreach and implementation of training and/or support groups.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and files on all outreach and education activities conducted.
  • Provide system navigation support to community members as well as providing referrals for relevant resources.
  • Proactively engage with community members through timely and necessary follow-up.
  • Consistently meet all assigned productivity and outcome goals.
  • In all activities, comply with all contracts, funder requirements, and VyC procedures and policies.
  • Meet or exceed all goals and requirements established by management for this position.
  • Provide support to other departments as needed.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings with the project team, as needed.
  • Represent VyC at meetings or trainings with the sponsoring entity, as requested by management.
  • Work with vendors, contractors, and consultants to achieve departmental goals, as needed and available.
  • Provide general and administrative support to management and designated staff as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
