About The Position

L3Harris is seeking a Lead Project Engineer to provide technical leadership and day-to-day execution for assigned Spitfire and LRASM/JASSM programs. The role integrates engineering scope, technical performance, cost, schedule, risk, and customer commitments within the program baseline established by the Program Manager and customer. The Lead Project Engineer serves as an engineering focal point across program management, control account managers, engineering functional leads, integrated product teams, operations, quality, supply chain, and line management. The position maintains the integrated engineering execution plan and provides clear status to program leadership and customers. It drives technical issue resolution and risk mitigation, coordinates engineering resources and approvals, and leads preparation for engineering and program reviews. The role also coordinates integration, verification, and production-readiness activities and communicates with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. The job is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, follows a 9/80 schedule (80 hours over nine workdays in each 14-day period, with every other Friday off), and requires 10–20% travel to customer and supplier sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project engineering, systems engineering, and integrated product development for complex hardware and software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate program objectives into executable engineering plans and align cross-functional teams to the technical baseline.
  • Experience managing technical execution through development, integration, verification, production, delivery, and sustainment phases.
  • Working expertise in Earned Value Management, engineering cost and schedule estimation, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Experience coordinating across multiple engineering functions, manufacturing/operations, quality, supply chain, and program controls.
  • Experience communicating directly with government and industry customers and presenting technical status, risks, and decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Availability to travel 10–20% to customer and supplier sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in an engineering or technical discipline.
  • Active DoD security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • Experience with DoD missile, weapon-system, or similarly complex defense programs; LRASM/JASSM RFE experience and/or A3M/PTW preferred.
  • Experience with requirements management, configuration management, technical baseline control, systems integration, verification planning, and risk/opportunity management.
  • Experience leading engineering execution in a production or rate-readiness environment, including supplier coordination and nonconformance/corrective-action closure.
  • Proficiency with engineering planning and execution tools such as IMS, EVM systems, requirements management, and configuration-management tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to lead through influence across a matrixed organization.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the engineering focal point among program management, control account managers, engineering functional leads, integrated product teams, operations, quality, supply chain, and line management.
  • Maintain the integrated engineering execution plan, including technical scope, staffing, schedules, deliverables, risks, issues, dependencies, and recovery actions; provide clear status to program leadership and customers.
  • Drive timely technical issue resolution, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and risk mitigation to protect product performance, quality, schedule, and customer commitments.
  • Establish actionable execution metrics and intervention plans; partner with Program Management and Finance to manage engineering earned value, forecasts, estimate-to-complete, and cost and schedule variance.
  • Coordinate resources and required approvals across engineering disciplines; ensure configuration-controlled technical decisions, interfaces, and changes are evaluated and executed.
  • Lead preparation for and execution of engineering and program reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, qualification, acceptance, and flight readiness activities, as applicable.
  • Coordinate integration, verification, and production-readiness activities.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Travel 10–20% of the time to customer and supplier sites in support of technical meetings, reviews, integration, and verification activities.
