About The Position

WSP Mining and Metals is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to act as a technical leader within their team dedicated to surface mine water management. This role involves joining multidisciplinary specialists focused on site safety, climate resilience, risk management, and regulatory compliance for mining clients. The position is ideal for someone who wants to be recognized as a technical authority in water management, have influence on analysis and design decisions, and contribute to complex mining projects from concept through closure.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or a related discipline.
Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
Significant experience in surface water management, ideally in a mining context.
Demonstrated ability to exercise senior technical judgment and influence decision-making.
Fluency in French; functional English required.
Proficiency with hydrology and hydraulics software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, GoldSim, PCSWMM, FLO-2D).

Responsibilities

Act as a technical authority in hydrology, hydraulics, and mining hydrotechnics.
Define, oversee, and review hydrological studies, water balances, and dam breach analyses.
Design and evaluate hydraulic structures such as ditches, channels, basins, culverts, spillways, floodways, pumping stations, and more.
Assess surface water risks, including flooding, capacity exceedance, erosion, and extreme flood management.
Integrate surface water management into decisions related to mine operations planning, development of mining infrastructure, operational management and expansions, and site closure and reclamation.
Support climate change adaptation strategies.
Work closely with specialized teams in tailings management, geotechnics, environment, and infrastructure.
Coach and mentor intermediate and junior water management engineers.
Contribute to the evolution of internal technical practices.
Participate, depending on interest, in business development, project leadership, and/or people management.
