About The Position

The Lead Production Pharmacist plays a vital leadership role within the pharmacy department, reporting to the Pharmacist-in-Charge. In addition to performing all responsibilities of a staff pharmacist, this role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day production operations to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate dispensing of medications. The Lead Production Pharmacist provides guidance to the pharmacy team, helps manage workflow, and serves as a key resource for addressing production-related issues, including training support staff and assisting with complex operational challenges.

Requirements

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy
  • Active State Pharmacist license, State license to handle medication
  • 1-3 years of pharmaceutical experience; or an equivalent mix of education and experience
  • Intermediate proficiency with Pharmacy and medication distribution software (Pyxis Medbank, Frameworks)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as medication documentation, business correspondence and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and business correspondence; ability to speak effectively, both in person and by telephone, to customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to understand and interpret statistical reports, data charts and graphs.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-4 years long term care pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Experience with long term care pharmacy software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and guide daily production operations including workflow distribution, medication preparation, and order verification to ensure timely delivery.
  • Perform initial and final clinical verification of medications, ensuring accuracy, appropriateness, and adherence to quality assurance standards.
  • Train, mentor, and support pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in best practices, procedures, and the use of pharmacy systems.
  • Lead quality assurance efforts including review of controlled medication logs, prescription accuracy, and compliance with DEA regulations.
  • Serve as point of contact for escalated issues related to prescription processing, inventory, or workflow interruptions.
  • Collaborate with the PIC to optimize staffing schedules, process improvements, and operational goals.
  • Assist in sterile and non-sterile compounding preparation as needed.
  • Manage communication with facility partners, prescribers, and internal staff to resolve medication or order issues.
  • Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and internal pharmacy regulations.
  • Monitor and respond to electronic communications regarding order status or clarifications.
  • Conduct regular audits of medication inventory, MedBank systems, and ancillary medication kits.
  • Support team readiness for inspections, audits, and certification renewals.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant production area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the PIC.
