Lead Product Development Engineer
About The Position
Fortune Brands Innovations is hiring a Lead Product Development Engineer to join our Emtek team in City of Industry, CA. This role is an individual contributor responsible for the design and development of Emtek handle and entryways. The Lead Product Development Engineer will lead product development engineering teams on assigned projects from concept to production and serve as the spokesperson for their product. This role requires a high proficiency in dealing with ambiguity, especially early in projects, to convey critical information to team members and stakeholders. The engineer will drive the resolution of critical early decisions in product design, develop and identify intellectual property claims, and communicate technical information to a non-technical audience. They will also collect, maintain, and disseminate technical knowledge learned throughout projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required
- 8+ years of product development engineering experience is required, to include significant manufacturing exposure
- Experience with International suppliers is highly preferred
- Fluent in the use of 3-D CAD (SolidWorks is preferred) and PC’s
- Familiar in several of the following areas: Advanced Failure Analysis and scientific problem solving, Mechanical System Modeling Techniques, FEA, CFD, FMEA, DOE, QFD, and DFMA, Use of engineering principles (e.g., fluid, mechanical and thermal), Interpretation of statistics related to manufacturing processes and part design, Collaborative problem-solving techniques, Geometric dimensioning and tolerances, Analysis of component / assembly tolerance stack-ups
- Ability to effectively work with suppliers from different countries / cultures
- Written and verbal communication skills for dealing with multiple levels of staff, customers and suppliers

- Proficiency in Spanish and/or Mandarin are beneficial but optional
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support and technical assistance to all engineering customers, both internal and external
- Leads teams of engineers to develop products
- Plans and steers the technical development of products
- Develop product development risks and mitigation plans
- Drive team to develop capable, cost-effective manufacturing and assembly processes concurrent to product design activities to ensure robust designs are delivered
- Interact with Marketing, Sales, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Designers, Purchasing, and suppliers to meet the specifications and needs of the customer in the development of new, reliable products for the market
- Make the connections between all user requirements, through product requirements, and into subsystem specifications
- Maintains product platform mindset
- Develop, lead, and actively participate in Design Reviews / DFM / DFA for new products
- Mentor/Coach other team members in problem solving and engineering
- Continuously improve processes, skills, team environment and tools necessary to achieve Fortune Brand’s product leadership strategy
- Drives resolution of critical early decisions in product design
- Develop and identify intellectual property claims while working with project teams
- Communicate technical information (data, designs and updates) to a non-technical audience
- Collects, maintains, and disseminates the technical knowledge that the project learns
