About The Position

As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture. The Lead Product Architect is responsible for identifying, integrating and validating new technologies for the benefit of future generations of Pixel products. In this role, you will work with a team of highly skilled industrial designers and product managers on the early definition of new products and new technologies. You have the technical experience to discuss engineering tradeoffs across multiple disciplines including antennas, sensors, silicon and batteries. You deliver an iconic design and performance. You will partner with the global NPI engineering teams as they bring these future products to market - offering ongoing support and bringing lessons learned back into the definition process of next-generation devices. The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes.
  • 12 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of work experience in consumer product design.
  • Experience shipping multiple consumer products in a lead, senior staff, or principal engineer role.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers around the world on part manufacturing and final assembly, including onsite factory support.
  • System integration experience, including electro-mechanical components (audio, display, camera, antenna, etc.), waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product architecture.
  • Deep technical knowledge in multiple manufacturing methods used in consumer products.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and validate new technologies while collaborating with design and product teams on early product definitions.
  • Actively prototype designs and navigate cross-disciplinary engineering trade-offs involving components like batteries, antennas, and sensors.
  • Collaborate with peer product architecture leads to stage technology development across multiple years of future products.
  • Sell the product goal, build consensus with organizational leadership, and generate excitement for solving complex technical problems.
  • Partner with global New Product Introduction (NPI) engineering to smoothly transition new product architectures to market.
